A panel of CIOs shared their experiences and challenges in rolling out BI applications

Talking about the BI rollout at Reliance Capital Asset Management Ltd, Vinay Nigudkar, Head IT, Reliance Capital Asset Management Ltd., commented that his company had been successful in deploying the solution rapidly and that they had been using it for almost four years now. “The solution generates about 250 reports per year. We have used this application on the front end and it saves us time and money,” he informed.

Sreeram Melarkode, VP, Edelweiss Securities Ltd., was of the opinion that reports were required across the board in the kind of set up that he worked in.

Sudesh Jain, Sr. Vice President, Transport Corporation of India Ltd., explained that the company used BI as its processes keep undergoing revisions and its offices were spread across over a hundred locations in the country with about three to four employees at each location.

“Most of our transactions are in cash. In order to track and monitor the same, besides for the purpose of auditing, business intelligence applications are of the utmost importance,” Jain added.

Rajesh Panchal, Head - IT Applications, Pidilite Industries Limited, presented the use case for BI at his organization, saying that the company needed these solutions for quarterly consolidation and results. He said,“These solutions have helped us in automating financial consultation on a one-on-one basis without wasting time.”

With almost 147 agents and about 5,000 to 6,000 invoices to be generated every month, Niranjan Bhalivade, CIO, Ceat Limited, said, “With so much of data, it was difficult for us to generate reports; moreover, managing schemes with data from the ERP system was difficult. We needed to tell the consumer more about ERP data, which remained locked earlier. Now that same data is being used for guiding people and acquiring business.”

“Most BI solutions only have reporting solutions and middleware is required to do scenario analysis, financial and scales forecasting. That’s not the case here,” he added.

Nigudkar concluded, “The advantage of the solution is that data becomes available for regulators. Also, business intelligence is now transformed into analytics.”
