Nokia Siemens Networks expands R&D in India
The
prime minister of Finland, Matti Vanhanen, inaugurated Nokia Siemens Networks
expanded development center in Bengaluru, India. Engineers at the site develop,
test and deliver software to support the worlds telecom networks.
The new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art R&D facilities; telepresence
enables strong interaction with the companys other global development
sites; it also hosts one of the companys three remote testing laboratories.
The center is staffed with experts in pre-sales, product management, program
management, and technical support, as well as process and quality-assurance
activities.
For many years, our previous Bengaluru site fostered expertise in various
product areas and became a vital element of our global R&D organization,
said Johann Haslinger, head of Nokia Siemens Networks Development Center, Bengaluru.
By moving to a larger, more modern facility, the center will not only
enhance our development efforts, but it also means that product innovation in
one area can be easily transferred across our entire business.
Nokia Siemens Networks previous development center in Bengaluru started
operations in 1994. With the opening of this new facility, the Bengaluru site
is now one of the companys largest. It currently has a workforce of approximately
2,300 with space to expand to 3,000, depending on demand.
More than 150 million mobile subscribers across India use services powered by
Nokia Siemens Networks. The company has a strong presence in the country with
marketing and sales offices in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, two Global Network Solutions
Centers (GNSC's) in Noida, Delhi NCR and Chennai; two manufacturing facilities
at Chennai and Kolkata, a research and development center in Bengaluru and services
staff spread over 170 locations.
