WinZip 14

The latest version of WinZip, the best known third-party Zip utility, adds support for Windows 7 features such as Libraries, Jumplists, Zip preview in Windows Explorer, touch screen support etc. Here’s what it offers for users of Vista/XP...

The software gives you a graphical overview of how much space you’ve saved by compressing files

You can decide whether you want to save the backup Zip file to a folder on your computer (perhaps a second drive), a writable CD/DVD, a removable flash drive or even a folder on an FTP server...

You can view the contents of a Zip file in an Explorer-like fashion which makes it easier to view large Zip files that
contain several folders

WinZip 14 can be used as backup software. It comes with a Job Wizard that lets you pick folders to be backed up, the frequency of backup etc. Once a Job file is created you can run it by double clicking on the job (.wjf) file or schedule it to run on a daily, weekly (you can specify the day/days of the week and time at which the backup occurs) or monthly. The software can upload backups using an internal FTP client, or burn them to a writable CD/DVD. An automated e-mail notification can be set up so that you know when a job has been completed

The Job Wizard starts off by prompting you to pick the folders that you want to backup. It's powerful and yet easy to use

Try to delete a zip file and WinZip’s Explorer integration kicks in providing a partial (or full) listing of the file’s contents so that you can decide whether or not you want to delete it

Price: $29.95 for WinZip 14 Standard edition; $39.95 for the Backup edition and $49.95 for the Pro edition. Volume licensing discounts are available. Existing registered users can upgrade to WinZip 14 at 50% of the new license fee.
The Backup and Pro editions both support the automated backup capability which is missing from the Standard edition. The Pro edition adds an internal photo viewer with some basic image viewing capabilities without having to extract a photo from a Zip file.
