Websense unveils the V10000 Web gateway appliance

"The Websense V10000 secure Web gateway appliance leverages our unprecedented visibility into the threat environment to deliver more effective protection from inbound threats and outbound data loss"

- Surendra Singh
Regional Director-India and SAARC, Websense

Websense recently unveiled a secure Web gateway appliance, Websense V10000, which is designed to support flexible, scalable deployments of network, hosted, and client Web security solutions. The V10000 uses advanced virtualization technology to run multiple Web security application modules concurrently.

The Websense V10000 secure Web gateway is being touted as the only solution that categorizes specific content on Web pages such as ‘mash ups’ and not just the Web pages themselves, thereby allowing IT managers to grant access to Web 2.0 sites while their organizations are protected from sections of sites that are inappropriate or security risks.

The appliance also has unique visibility into and protection from user-generated content threats such as spam and malicious links posted as comments to social Web sites, including blogs, forums and social networking sites.

“Effective protection in today’s Web 2.0 world requires the ability to analyze Web content in real-time to recognize threats and inappropriate content ‘on the fly’, even content that has not been classified. The Websense V10000 secure Web gateway appliance leverages our unprecedented visibility into the threat environment to deliver more effective protection from inbound threats and outbound data loss,” said Surendra Singh, Regional Director-India and SAARC, Websense.

“We have launched this V10000 appliance to help our customers in terms of whenever their employees are going on social networking sites and if any content, which is not good from the security perspective or in terms of other perspectives like company guidelines, then that particular content in real-time is screened and blocked. Whatever content is desirable; it is sent to the user. None of our competitors are able to achieve this in real-time,” added Singh.

As it classifies dynamic Web content and identifies and protects against Web 2.0 security risks in real-time, it uses more than 1,800 analytics, including legacy anti-virus, Web anti-virus, and reputation amongst others. It also has application protocol control that provides check-box management for more than 125 application protocols to reduce security risks.

The leading price to performance ratio provides enterprise-class performance at a fraction of the cost of competing appliances and delivers unique real-time content and security inspection technologies. This helps organizations reduce capital expenses while providing best-in-class performance and security.

Moreover, it provides centralized management of Web security, proxy and cache, and application controls to manage and secure the enterprise in a Web 2.0 world. It streamlines management and reporting for the Websense Web Security Gateway while reducing the cost of deployment and management. The V10000 also delivers Websense Essential Information Protection as an appliance-based solution and co-exists with existing network infrastructure such as a firewall, router, etc.
