Brief

The game is all set to begin!

Avid gamers trying their hands at Cricket 07

Charu Sabale, Director of Zero Friction’s India subsidiary, addressing the gathering

Zero Friction Ltd. in association with Electronic Arts, announced Vixture Gaming Championship, a gaming competition with overall prize money amounting to Rs. 50 lakhs in cash. Five popular games from Electronic Arts have been selected: cashing in on the cricket fever is Cricket 07, along with games like FIFA 08, a boxing challenge called Fight Night Round 3, and a car racing game Need for Speed ProStreet. While all these are individual games, the team game involves playing Crysis, a science fiction shoot game, where all the five members of a team will battle it out with the opposing five. The team at Zero Friction is aiming to target 50,000 gamers from all across the country, primarily through video game parlors and cyber cafes.

Individuals have to form their own team of five members, and each participant has to register with a fee of Rs.250, exclusive of service tax. Elimination will be based on maximum points accumulated as each game has been given a separate point weightage, Crysis being given the highest value. The winning team will get Rs. 20 lakhs as prize money, the runners up bagging Rs. 10 lakhs, and the top gamer in each of the game all set to win Rs. 4 lakhs each.

Crysis will be played on PC, Need for Speed ProStreet and FIFA 08 on XBOX 360, Fight Night Round 3 on PS3, and Cricket 07 on the PS2 platform. Registrations for participation will begin on May 1, while the preliminaries will take place in six cities—Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune between May 15 – 30. The finals will be held in Mumbai from June 13 -15, which will start off with the 64 short-listed teams from all across.

“Unlike other parts of the world, gaming in India does not enjoy recognition as a serious sport. Vixture will provide a platform for budding Indian talent to showcase their skills,” said Charu Sabale, Director of Zero Friction’s India subsidiary. Starting off this year, they plan to make this an annual event.
