Zero Friction Ltd. in association with Electronic Arts, announced
Vixture Gaming Championship, a gaming competition with overall prize money amounting
to Rs. 50 lakhs in cash. Five popular games from Electronic Arts have been selected:
cashing in on the cricket fever is Cricket 07, along with games like FIFA 08,
a boxing challenge called Fight Night Round 3, and a car racing game Need for
Speed ProStreet. While all these are individual games, the team game involves
playing Crysis, a science fiction shoot game, where all the five members of
a team will battle it out with the opposing five. The team at Zero Friction
is aiming to target 50,000 gamers from all across the country, primarily through
video game parlors and cyber cafes.
Individuals have to form their own team of five members,
and each participant has to register with a fee of Rs.250, exclusive of service
tax. Elimination will be based on maximum points accumulated as each game has
been given a separate point weightage, Crysis being given the highest value.
The winning team will get Rs. 20 lakhs as prize money, the runners up bagging
Rs. 10 lakhs, and the top gamer in each of the game all set to win Rs. 4 lakhs
each.
Crysis will be played on PC, Need for Speed ProStreet and FIFA 08 on XBOX 360,
Fight Night Round 3 on PS3, and Cricket 07 on the PS2 platform. Registrations
for participation will begin on May 1, while the preliminaries will take place
in six citiesMumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune between
May 15 30. The finals will be held in Mumbai from June 13 -15, which
will start off with the 64 short-listed teams from all across.
Unlike other parts of the world, gaming in India does not enjoy recognition
as a serious sport. Vixture will provide a platform for budding Indian talent
to showcase their skills, said Charu Sabale, Director of Zero Frictions
India subsidiary. Starting off this year, they plan to make this an annual event.
