Polycom launches RPX HD in India

Polycom Inc has announced the launch of its RealPresence Experience High Definition (RPX HD) solution in India. The telepresence solution comes with cinematic views and HD surround sound and is said to deliver a life-like remote meeting experience. Each solution is an all-inclusive suite that comes equipped with furnishings, studio lighting, acoustic cloud and walls and electronics. The company has entered into a partnership with Bharti Teletech, for distribution of its communications solutions in the Indian market.

The RPX HD is a symmetrically designed modular room with HD sound, ceiling microphones, acoustic wall paneling, high-fidelity stereo equipment and Polycom Siren 22 kHz StereoSurround sound technology, and EyeConnect technology. The solution enables meeting participants (across countries) to communicate eye-to-eye, full-size and in-proportion.

This means that executives sitting in India can communicate with their colleagues in Japan anytime during the day. While the Indian executives would be physically present in India, their counterparts in Japan would be available on contoured video walls (large LCD screens), but it would appear as if they are sitting across the table. To make this happen, the both offices in India and Japan are required to deploy this solution by Polycom. The minimum bandwidth requirement is 2 Mb per screen. In addition, the participants can also share content with each other. The solution can incorporate seating from eight to 28 people.

“Today’s business environment is more distributed than ever, with approximately 90% of employees worldwide working at locations other than their corporate headquarters. The RPX HD enables these employees to enjoy the same meeting experience as being seated in the same room, but without enduring the time, stress and cost associated with travel,” said Yugal Sharma, Regional Director, Polycom India & South Asia.

“The price starts from Rs 1.25 crore and goes up to Rs 3 crore, depending on the configuration. Sound, flooring, furnishing and designing of the room account for almost 60-70% of the total cost,” he added.

Polycom plans to acquire at least 25-30 customers for its RPX HD in the span of one year beginning April 08- March 09. For this purpose, the company would be looking at large and medium enterprises, MNCs, the government sector, education and health sector and the IT and software companies.
