HP introduces disk arrays for medium businesses

HP has announced the launch of two new families of disk arrays, the HP StorageWorks 2000 Modular Smart Array (MSA2000), and the HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA4400). The launch comes after HP conducted a research on the requirements of the medium business. Both MSA 2000 and EVA 4400 offer high-performance, and features like virtualization and advanced provisioning software, and will be targeted at the medium business segment.

The MSA2000 family comprises of low-cost Fiber Channel and iSCSI disk arrays for highly available, storage area networks (SAN) and is designed for virtualized server environments. Though small and medium businesses would be the prime target, according to HP, the product could also find takers in enterprises for their remote office, departmental, secondary and tertiary storage needs. It also includes optional management software for snap and clone capabilities to minimize the risk of business interruption.

The EVA 4400 on the other hand, offers features that would help medium businesses to cost-effectively manage large amounts of data in a SAN environment without investing in deep storage experience. It comes integrated with virtualization features that were previously available only on high-end arrays. It also has a dual-redundant hardware architecture that supports local and remote replication software, which eliminates single points of failure and helps ensure maximum uptime.

“HP’s new suite of solutions caters specifically to the unique needs of medium and growing businesses in India. Medium businesses have big expectations for customization, which are often tempered by restrictions of time, budget, power and staff. With these solutions, HP enables these businesses to take advantage of the benefits that a bladed infrastructure delivers,” said Manoj Suvarna, Country Manager, HP StorageWorks Division, Technology Solutions Group, HP India.

The price for the MSA 2000 starts from $ 5,800 and that for the EVA 4400 starts from $15,000.
