CeBIT 2008: Curtain Raiser
CeBIT 2008 is poised for its annual launch from 4 to 9 March
in Hannover, Germany.
The
new CeBIT concept is ready for takeoff. Ernst Raue as the Deutsche Messe board
member in charge of show says that it is gearing up to underscore its
outstanding role as the digital communitys No. 1 marketplace.
The new CeBIT structure will feature business, public sector as well as home
and mobile solutions.
The Technology & Infrastructure display will present cross-sectional backbone
technologies. A few new showcases will be making their debut as part of CeBIT
2008: Learning & Knowledge Solutions, Consulting & Services and design:
driving innovation.
One of the aims of the new CeBIT concept is to bring exhibitors and potential
buyers and users together more efficiently. This will be achieved by means of
themes which have been regrouped to make it more convenient for visitors to
find everything of interest to them in a more compact area.
Business Solutions
Business
Solutions focuses on the optimization of business processes and ICT solutions.
CeBIT showcases the entire range of solutions for the control and management
of operational and business processes and the interplay of these processes.
Focus on SMEs
For small and medium-sized companies the first port of call is likely to be
the special CeBIT forum for SMEs, while visitors from personnel/human resources
departments will be interested in the Human Resources Forum. There is also a
special Banking & Finance area, where visitors from this sector can catch
up on all the latest information and developments. Trade visitors from every
sector will find something of interest in the display future parc,
which takes a look at the shape of things to come.
Consulting & Services
Another new feature at CeBIT 2008 will be the Consulting & Services display,
which portrays IT services in context, as integrated parts of the value-added
chain. Experts from full-service providers, as well as operational and technology
consultants will be on hand to give visitors best-practice advice and tips on
integration, implementation and outsourcing.
Display on eLearning
In response to a survey of visitors at CeBIT 2007, Deutsche Messe will be launching
a dedicated eLearning display at CeBIT 2008. The survey revealed that more than
95,000 trade visitors were specifically interested in this topic. The new Learning
& Knowledge Solutions section will feature Government Learning, Mobile Learning,
HR Self-Service Solutions, Simulation, Certification and Best Practice Applications.
A rotating series of talks and lectures will also be held on a daily basis.
| Visitors to forthcoming CeBIT to be held in Hannover
from 4th to 9th March will witness the latest service offers in mobile Internet.
The Mobile Internet stands to become the key future
sales engine for the telecommunications sector, according to a latest
survey.
The TELCO Trend survey, conducted by
Steria Mummert Consulting, that of the experts surveyed, 56.5 percent
ranked the mobile Internet as the most important mobile communications
service, followed by text messaging (54 percent), the mobile office (50.8)
and voice services (44.4).
The demand for mobile Internet access is particularly
strong among business clients, who want to be able to use e-mail plus
address and calendar management on the road.
On the other hand, traditional telephony, is losing
ground: Only four out of 10 telecom companies expect to register
long-term growth through sales of voice services. Mobile Internet
is set to receive an additional boost from stepped-up marketing
of inexpensive data transmission flat rates as well as next-generation
mobile phones. By the end of 2007, more than 10 million Germans
already owned a UMTS-capable device.
These hotly anticipated new mobile trendsetters,
characterized by very high-speed Internet access, will go on display at
the upcoming CeBIT. Growing UMTS broadband coverage allows for download
rates of up to 7.2 megabits per second - more than three times the speed
of conventional DSL fixed network access. Uploading data has also become
significantly faster, thanks to the new HSUPA technology (High Speed Uplink
Packet Access), reaching up to 1.45 mbps. Further innovative features
are also anticipated - for example, gesture control and integrated navigation
chips.

Public Sector Solutions
The Public Sector Solutions display covers topics such as eGovernment solutions
(municipal, regional, federal and pan-EU), new eHealth applications, geo-information
management, education and training presenting the entire spectrum of ICT solutions
for the public sector, covering everything from local government to the needs
of the European parliament.
Following its successful debut in 2007, the TeleHealth congress and exhibition
will become part of CeBIT, where it will put a spotlight on eHealth applications.
Next years theme will be ICT solutions in the health sector.
On two days of the show telemedical applications and ICT solutions for the entire
health sector will for the first time be presented together at one central location.
Home & Mobile Solutions
The display category Home & Mobile Solutions will showcase
a broad range of ICT products and solutions for everyday application in the
home and work environment. This display will also highlight the potential for
networking. The focus will be on the benefits to users, in particular the key
target groups from commerce and industry, as well as small businesses, the self-employed
and freelancers.
