High Speed Information advantage

Data connectivity, static as well as mobile, serves as the backbone of IT. Extending this topic, Pradeep Dwivedi, Vice President –Marketing, Tata Teleservices Limited gave a presentation on how Tata Indicom and the Tata Group as a whole are striving hard to provide better communication services for the country. He stressed upon the fact that Tata Group as a whole provides services across all the sections of ICT viz. wireless, fixed line, broadband, DTH, enterprise, wholesale, IT and ITeS. Dwivedi urged government bodies to look beyond state owned communication service providers. He said, “Traditionally the government has depended on state telecom companies, Tata addresses the core need of seamless connectivity and should be considered.” Tata Indicom proposed to co-create the vital backbone of connectivity to enable information exchange and dissemination of technology in various user departments within government and public sector undertakings. He gave an overview of the company’s product portfolio in enterprise as well as retail.

Talking about the Wi-Fi scenario, he said that Tata Indicom is the leading provider of wireless Internet services in India and with more than 250 hotspots it has a presence in almost all the major cities. While Wi-Fi is limited in reach, some of the other technologies will enable wireless services in other areas of the country. Talking about speed, Dwivedi said, “High speed wireless Internet access has really caught up as it allows complete mobility. We are looking at the speeds of 2 to 4 Mbps once 3G comes in.” He further talked about wireless ATM connectivity for improving the financial sector’s situation. For the government, he gave an idea as to how an SMS gateway can help in better governance. It can notify users about a disaster, polio drop program etc. Along with this, vernacular messages and voice messaging can also be provided. He explained various other features and initiatives taken by Tata Indicom for better governance and business. Speaking about Tata’s helping hand to government officials, he said, “Going beyond products and services which you have been exposed to, we can provide you new things, new technologies which can be customized as per your needs using our people, partners, processes and technologies.” Lastly, he spoke about Tata Indicom innovation center where employees and partners work together to develop new applications, devices and services.
