30 Minute Interview

Managing processes

Daniel Sheahan, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan at IDS Scheer, spoke to Nivedan Prakash about BPM and the company’s expansion plans for the Indian market.

Daniel Sheahan

Tapping the Indian Market

IDS is targeting the Indian market to help enterprises optimize their investments in strategic business and technology initiatives. We chose the Indian market primarily based on the rate of economic growth and the way in which Indian companies are expanding not only within India but also globally. This gives us a significant opportunity to also assist Indian companies with their operational efficiencies, globalization, etc.

We will build a reasonably significant sales force and consulting organization in India as we provide services to enable companies to do Business Process Management (BPM) and for that we need consulting. We already have partnerships with leading system integrators to tap the Indian market and we are also in talks with the big players like Reliance, Future Group, ITC and HCL.

BPM’s scope in India

For us, BPM is about operational efficiency and not just a piece of middleware. Our products and platforms are for measuring processes and their efficiency. We are into understanding and visualizing a process as it happens and then being able to recommend and design changes that will enrich the efficiency of a company. Through BPM, IDS offers consulting services to companies of any branch and helps them to make their business process more efficient, cost-saving and more competitive.

The good news for us is that the Indian organizations are looking to adopt solutions like BPM to automate and manage their business more effectively and efficiently.

Challenges

The biggest challenge for us is in educating the Indian enterprise market that there is a difference between doing business process management and documenting processes. We want to make the market understand the process management is not just documentation of processes. Process needs to keep up and be dynamic to the requirements of the business. So, BPM is a discipline and not just about drawing processes.

ARIS at IDS

ARIS is a platform for doing business process management. With ARIS, the company offers an integrated and complete tool portfolio for strategy, design, implementation and controlling of business processes. Being part of the ARIS platform the company’s software tools, ARIS Toolset and ARIS Process Performance Manager, are the international leading software solutions for comprehensive business process management.

A strategic partnership with SAP makes the ARIS tools and methods standards for the NetWeaver platform, thus offering for the first time standard software and process management as an integrated whole. Further co-operations with Oracle, Fujitsu, Microsoft, IBM and BEA boost ARIS as a global industry standard for process-based software configuration.

Focus areas and building partnerships

We will be primarily focusing on major corporations in the banking and finance industry and manufacturing industry. We are also big in government risk compliance, so we will be focusing on the government sector as well.

We have strong technology partnerships with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft and TIBCO. We also have strong relationships with Satyam, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Siemens. Then we will also be building our own reseller community within India. Besides, we are in discussions with several other local SIs.
