R&D, AJAX and SOA

TIBCO’s increased investments in India include the establishment of a research and development center in Pune and the launch of its third global technology challenge, a series of contests called “The Power of You”. Ram Menon, Executive Vice President at TIBCO talked to Faiz Askari about all of this and more.

TIBCO’s Indian focus

We recently launched a new R&D center in Pune, with a capacity of 200 seats. The focus of this center will be in multiple directions including documentation, product design and new product development. TIBCO’s ongoing initiatives in this region represent an integral part of our strategy to drive innovation and growth in key emerging markets and increase our presence and technology offerings globally.

We are investing in India looking towards strengthening our talent resource and at the same India is a big target market for us.

AJAX at TIBCO

Ajax is a great tool for developers. We have identified this and are building the talent pool to leverage the capabilities of this technology. To elaborate, we are favoring AJAX because of one simple fact: Web Services is the next wave of business growth. IT organizations are getting into Web Services. AJAX is the best medium to support the next generation of Web Services. What is required to spread the word about AJAX is to take this message to the university and developer levels. In this regard, TIBCO has partnered with India’s top educational institutions. We will be conducting seminars that will create awareness about AJAX. We will try to bring technology experts and developers under one roof. This will enable the developers community to get to know about the utility of AJAX from the experts of this domain.

SOA adoption in India

Most organizations in the West agree that SOA is a wonderful practice. But in India this technology is yet to pick up. SOA is a wonderful practice as it offers great inter-organizational interoperability.

IDC focus and benefits thereof

TIBCO’s expanded India Development Center (IDC) will leverage local engineering and research talent to design, develop and test new technologies for enterprise customers across the company’s portfolio of service-oriented architecture (SOA), business process management (BPM) and business optimization products. The center, which currently employs more than 200 people, combines deep technical know-how with a broad array of information technology programming skills for creating high-quality, innovative solutions for TIBCO’s diverse customer base. The company’s customer portfolio in this region includes industry powerhouses such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, LIC, Reliance Communication, and Tata Teleservices.

‘Power Of You’ initiative

The ‘Power of You’ initiative invites students and professionals to take part in a developer contest to build Web applications using AJAX and service-oriented architecture principles. TIBCO will partner and work closely with leading business and technology organizations to encourage students and professionals to create feature-rich Internet applications.
