Polycom sets up R&D center in Hyderabad

Polycom, Inc has opened its first R&D center in India. The center which marks an investment of Rs. 20 crores is located in Hyderabad and will develop products and solutions in the field of IP collaborations and communications.

“India is well known for its world class technology talent pool which we are delighted to have access to,” said Sunil Bhalla, senior VP and GM, Polycom Voice Communications solution division.

Earlier Polycom only had sales and distribution offices in the country which with partners like Bharti Teletech Ltd and Ingram Micro helped distribute Polycom’s voice and video solutions across India.

Reliance Industries was one of Polycom’s first large strategic customers and has advocated video conferencing technology through its service offerings. Polycom is in partnership with many Indian communications services providers like Airtel, BSNL, Sify and Tulip to provide video communications and conferencing services.

Bhalla said, “We are focusing on a Unified Communications ecosystem where voice, video and data are interlinked and mutually inclusive.

“Video is the next big thing and with the growing spread of companies where a person has to be at multiple locations, video conferencing solutions offer a significant increase in productivity while helping reduce travel costs.”
