GlobalLogic on an expansion spree
Peter Harrison
|
On his recent visit to India, Peter Harrison, CEO and MD,
GlobalLogic, laid down plans for the future. The global Outsourced Product
Development market is growing at a rate of 50% year on ear, and we intend to
acquire at least 10% of this market, he told Express Computer. At present
GlobalLogic accounts for 2-3% of the OPD market. The company plans to acquire
small and mid-sized firms as well as captive units in the country. We
are in active talks with almost 10 companies in India, said Harrison.
Besides this, it also proposes to double its workforce, and increase its presence
in tier 1 and tier 2 cities. Harrison also said that the Indian OPD market is
valued at $3 billion.
He however expressed his concerns for the slow growth of
OPD in the software domain. Compared to the hardware space, a very less
amount is being outsourced in the software space. Out of the total $100 billion
software industry, close to $3-4 billion is being outsourced, said Harrison.
Factors that account for this are the treatment of software as an art and not
science, and the management of companies by technologists rather than business
people.
Harrison said that GlobalLogic will focus on OPD. Globally,
in the last ninety days the company has acquired 30 new customers and increased
its headcount to about 2,000. The company has 10 customers in India including
a travel Web site.
GlobalLogic has also started Project SETU, a program aimed
at promoting industry-institution interaction. It has also signed MOUs with
Shri Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, Shri Ramdeobaba Kamla Nehru Engineering
College, Nagpur, and Rungta College, Bhilai for the same.
