30 Minute Interview

BPM: Define & monitor tasks

Dr. Ketabchi, Founder Chairman, CTO and EVP at Savvion talked to Vinita Gupta about BPM and Savvion's approach to BPM.

Dr. Ketabchi

Business Process Management (BPM) is a technology-enabled practice that permits the monitoring and involvement of process. It deals with the integration of systems and people. It is different from SOA and middleware as SOA looks at services and services can be defined through BPM. It can solve many existing problems as it has the ability to change processes.

BPM stimulates and executes business processes. For instance whenever an order is received, reviewed or approved, a customer’s accounts need to be updated and all these need co-ordination and BPM first defines and monitors the task and then improves the process. The process then accesses the existing products, components of the products and builds new connections.

A set of integrated tools help create, manage, and optimize business processes. The tool consists of Savvion Process Modeler, Process Asset Manager repository, BPM Studio BPM Server and BPM Portal.

About Savvion Process Asset Manager
Savvion Process Asset Manager helps business people find and reuse ideas from other people, and store and aggregate process documentation and simulation history. The Process Modeler is fully integrated with the Savvion Process Asset Manager, which means that any work you do in Modeler can be saved to a common location and reused by other people of the team.

The latest version, BusinessManager 7.0 adds Savvion Business Expert that enables users to identify KPIs, analyze problems, triage short-term solutions and optimize long-term solutions over time.

The Process Modeler makes it easy for non-technical people to identify process improvement opportunities. It is a free, downloadable PC application. The Process Asset Manager repository stores all the changes made to a business process, so teams can quickly see what changes have been made as processes are optimized.

BPM Studio supports collaboration between IT professionals, business analysts, Web designers and solution providers. BPM Server allows business units to collaborate and work together, which is vital for streamlining and optimizing business processes across departments. BPM Portal, part of the BusinessManager platform, provides the tools to manage daily work and respond to problems and changing business conditions.

Savvion would be focusing on BFSI, telecommunication and manufacturing. In India the BPO sector would be crucial for us. We are planning to expand our sales and marketing. We have 20 customers in India including Reliance Capital, Boeing, Sun Microsystems, Johnson & Johnson, Bank of America, Nokia and Southwest Airlines.
