Aggregating bandwidth at Wheels India
Wheels India was facing problems with DSL connectivity.
Deploying a data line aggregation solution for increased bandwidth
and Internet reliability did the trick. By Sandeep N Moudgal
Wheels India Pvt. Ltd. is one of the largest manufacturers of wheels in India.
From four wheelers to army requirements and bulldozers, it is a company with
a turnover of Rs. 1,020 crores. The company has nearly 1,500 employees at its
Padi unit in Chennai alone.
We have two sets of Internet connections, one from
Sify and one that operates on DSL technology, said N. S. Parmeshwaran,
Deputy Manager, IT infrastructure, Wheels India Ltd. The downtime
of the Internet DSL link coupled with the problems of our engineers
trying to rectify it manually on each workstation by switching lines
and the load increase on our servers was a frustrating experience.
After considering our options and approaching various solution providers
to integrate our Internet lines, some of whom were not able to provide
us with appropriate solutions, FatPipe approached us with a solution
[tailor]made for our problem he said.
The FatPipe product, WARP, is a hardware solution that supports
a speed of five Mbps. This was the product installed at Wheels India
Ltd. The standard configuration for WARP has one LAN port and three
WAN ports. However, WARP provided to Wheels India has 10 WAN ports
plus one for the LAN, customized for the clients requirement.
The product provides for 300% redundancy and speed for bidirectional
IP traffic. It took approximately a week for FatPipe to install
and configure its existing Sify mailing solutions to the FatPipe
product.
After deploying WARP, Wheels India Ltd. the number of complaints
regarding Internet problems has plummeted to almost zero The company has nearly
400 employees whose workstations are connected to the Internet. As most of the
correspondence with their U.S. offices and other divisions in India are routed
through e-mail, the solution has improved connectivity and reduced downtime
by integrating the existing Sify leased line with the DSL line through WARP.
The product has also helped in load balancing.
| Based out of Utah, FatPipe Inc. has established
itself in the IT security market. It is ranked 36th in the list
of top 5000 companies for companies providing security solutions,
a listing of the fastest growing private companies in America.
It has expanded in the past decade to having base in almost
six countries including one in Chennai, India. The company has
been involved in providing bandwidth segregation and Dataline
aggregation in India. |
WARP is priced from $4,000 to $40,000 based on the clients requirements.
We employ nearly five engineers to take care of the IT infrastructure
here at our Padi office in Chennai. Considering that we pay nearly Rs. 15,000
to each engineer, the hourly cost of employing them comes to almost Rs. 62,
the solutions have increased the efficiency level of our engineers and cut down
time spent addressing trivial issues of Net connectivity.
We are not looking at the economic viability neither are we considering
the ROI on the product, it is more to do with the efficiency of our company
employees, added Parmeshwaran.
So is Wheels India looking at future business with Fatpipe?
Definitely. We are considering an ERP solution for our company
that is almost in place. So we are looking at the options FatPipe
can provide us with, said Parmeshwaran.
