Brief

Time for thin clients

After opening a sales office in Bangalore, California based Wyse Technologies is gung ho about the Indian market . Meanwhile its OS is being developed at the company’s Bangalore R&D centre. Tarken Maner, President, Worldwide Field Operations, Wyse Technologies, says, “Although we have been present in India for the past three years through our R&D initiatives, we recently set up a sales office in India.”

The Indian market presently makes a miniscule contribution to Wyse’s global revenues but the company is excited about the growth potential. Wyse has sales and partnership tie ups with VMWare and AT&T’s business division.

Maner says, “We plan to sell our Thin Client OS to other hardware majors . We are also looking to enter into the OEM space in India.” With about 100 customers in India, the company hopes to ship 10,000 units in 2007-08.

The company is working on two eGovernance projects along with ICICI Bank and the state of Karnataka under the ambit of the latter’s Bhoomi scheme. Wyse Technology is targeting the ITeS, telecom, financial institutions, retail, healthcare and e-Governance segments in India. Rekha Murthy, Country Manager, Wyse Technology India, says, “We have selected Ingram Micro as our national distributor to approach potential customers. We have approached 150 partners through Ingram. We are also in discussions with both central and state governments to work with them in e-Governance projects.”
