Broadband applications within the enterprise

A S Rajgopal of Reliance Communications on broadband applications within the enterprise.

A S Rajgopal

Highlighting the pervasiveness of Reliance's data communications set-up, A S Rajgopal, Head, Key Accounts, Reliance Communications cited this one fact: “10,000 ATMs use Reliance's CDMA connectivity."

He listed some innovative bandwidth-related offerings including the capability to offer 1 Mbps to 1 Gbps on the same port. At this point the audience wanted to know if Reliance was offering dynamic bandwidth on demand. Rajgopal demurred but added, “We will evolve to that.”

We have two centres each in Bangalore and Mumbai with the idea that companies may want to have DR set-ups along with data centres in different seismic zones

The company’s C&M portal was in the spotlight. It allows a user company to “view your network performance and know the status of your implementation.” Rajgopal suggested that a company can use the portal in its NOC (Network Operations Centre). The portal lets users download SLA (Service Level Agreements) records and get alerts related to downtime or failure.

The company’s data centres amount to four, and all are L3 set-ups certified for BS7799. “We have two centres each in Bangalore and Mumbai with the idea that companies may want to have DR set-ups with the data centres in different seismic zones.”

Continuing with the theme of DR, Reliance advocates synchronous data mirroring for set-ups that involve distances of 50 to 100 km. This can be accomplished in near real-time through Metro Ethernet technology.

Coming to the telecom side of Reliance’s business, he touched upon offerings such as a single board number across locations. “You can have the same eight digit number in every city—only the STD code will change,” said Rajgopal.

For 1-800 toll free calls, Reliance has an agreement with BSNL so that Reliance 1-800 numbers are accessible through BSNL and vice-versa. Failover call routing to a second call centre and auto-routing of calls on weekends or holidays were some of the company’s offerings for the BPO/ITeS sector.
