Tech Tip of the Week

Disable the Desktop Cleanup Wizard

Every now and then, Windows XP prompts you to clean up unused icons on your desktop through the mechanism of the Desktop Cleanup Wizard that takes icons of infrequently used programs and puts them in a separate folder that it creates on your desktop. You may not want it to do that. In which case, right click the desktop (any empty portion of it) and choose Properties. In the resultant dialog, choose the table labelled Desktop and click on Customise Desktop. Clear the checkbox that says “Run desktop cleanup wizard.” OK your way out of the dialogs and you’re done.
