Meet looks at ways to tackle e-security risks

A seminar on e-security was organised by the SDG Software and Sun Microsystems recently. The seminar focussed on elucidating on the applicability of Identity Management (IDM) and Provisioning software for enterprise-wide workflow automation and management to corporates and industry associations.

Anil Valluri, Country Director, Services & Systems Engineering, Sun Microsystems, Ajay Gupta, CEO, SDG, Col Vikram Tiwathia, Chief Information Officer, CII, and  Bhavesh Upadhyaya, Senior Strategist, SDG, made presentations at the seminar.

Security and IDM Services have traditionally assisted companies in auditing, designing and implementing corporate directory-powered solutions including provisioning, single sign-on and federated security frameworks. For external customers it has enabled enterprise Web access management and a simple password management system. Actually, Identity Management and Provisioning software has a scope that is much wider, and it can be used to plan and automate the entire workflow management of an enterprise.

Valluri of Sun Microsystems made a presentation on innovations in network and server technologies. He elaborated on Sun’s strategy for utility-based applications and computing and the importance of IDM with regard to it.

Making a presentation on Enterprise Risk Management, Gupta of SDG stated, “Surveys have indicated that senior executives feel that their organisations need the ability to track the number and type of security breaches. Over 50 percent of senior executives surveyed feel that financial cost of security breaches is incalculable.”

Gupta elaborated on how e-security and IDM solutions are critical as businesses tackle the challenges of keeping the business agile, adapting to complex shifting external environments and addressing the need for corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

Col Tiwathia of CII, spoke on Information Risk Management by the corporates in India. He explained, “Information security is a strategic matter and has direct bearing on an organisation’s ability to make money.”

Col Tiwathia emphasised on the significant deployment of IT and networking infrastructure in government departments. He added, “According to a study, over 50 percent of the corporate executives admit that data is most likely to be lost through current employees.”

Upadhyaya of SDG presented a technical overview of IDM and a case study. The seminar was attended by representatives from various industry verticals like banking & insurance, telecom, automobiles, airlines, and manufacturing.
