CA launches XOsoft
At the launch of XOsoft, a range of storage management solutions
from Computer Associates.
Computer Associates (CA) India recently unveiled its latest
product, CA XOsoft, a range of storage management solutions. The range includes
WANSync, WANSyncHA, WANSyncCD, Assured Recovery, Enterprise Rewinder and In
Motion. CA India’s Ninad Karpe, Managing Director; Kaustubh Patki, Manager,
Channel Marketing; and Soma Kar, Technical Consultant, were present at the launch.
Said Karpe in his opening remarks, “India is growing at the rate of over
10 percent in some areas. This is very big, and the optimism must be maintained
for consistent growth. But no growth can happen if the building blocks are not
in place.” He stated that IT is one of the crucial blocks for business
growth, and that any nation going global depended a lot on its IT. Talking about
CA’s journey in India, Karpe said that the new range of products was going
to play an extremely important role.
Referring to the 9/11 disaster, Kar noted, “We all have huge amounts of
data in our businesses, and it is essential to protect it. There is a need to
look beyond back-up of data to recovery management and continuous application
availability.” She pointed out some of the challenges faced by companies
in maintaining their data, including system downtime, data loss, remote branch
office protection, recovery, consolidating back-ups and eliminating the back-up
window. She also emphasised the need for regular distribution and consolidation
of data.
Quoting a study done by the University of Oxford, Kar added that a catastrophe
may induce a 5 to 8 percent fall in share prices immediately. This, according
to her, calls not just for multiple protection of data but also managing data
protection.
According to the study, the cost of losing information has
a major and immediate impact on shareholder value. After the immediate impact,
the reputation of the company is affected, and its marketshare is reduced. The
study says that the lack of application availability affects 31 percent of the
revenue within an hour or less of a catastrophic event. Kar opined that current
back-up and recovery solutions are not able to meet all the application availability
requirements of an enterprise.

“CA XOsoft is a proactive bunch of solutions rather than
reactive,” explained Kar. The software can solve different business problems:
- WANSync is used for data protection. It’s a disaster
recovery software which provides real-time replication of data across various
platforms which support heterogeneity. WANSync can run on a large number of
servers.
- WANSyncHA is for application availability. It is a high-availability
solution based on asynchronous real-time replication and automated application
fail-over and fail-back. WANSyncHA provides data to users without losing anything
and without any downtime.
- WANSyncCD is for data distribution and consolidation.
It provides branch office automation with the help of content distribution
and consolidation. WANSyncCD can be used to continuously replicate information
repositories of unlimited size between any number of locations worldwide.
It can work in many-to-many scenarios, providing centralised management and
reporting.
- Assured Recovery is for DR site compliance. It provides
easily conductible tests of the recoverability of the data, and tests data
on multiple servers. Assured Recovery makes sure that the production system
is not left vulnerable during testing.
- Enterprise Rewinder is for accelerating recovery and minimising
data loss. It recovers application servers of any type and size.
- In Motion is for minimising planned downtime of the system.
It is used during migration and maintenance operations. Downtime during such
operations is reduced to a negligible period with the help of In Motion. It
works across various platforms and provides truly application-aware protection.
All these softwares work on various platforms such as MS IIS, MS SQL, MS Exchange
and Blackberry server.
XOSoft is promoting the product by providing a free trail of the software for
14 days for up to 10 servers.
