Satellite network for the Indian Army

HCL Comnet has announced the inauguration of a state–of–the-art satellite communication network that it has implemented for the Indian Army called Project Rohini. It was thrown open by Lt Gen Davinder Kumar, PVSM, VSM Bar, ADC, Signal Officer-in-Chief and Senior Colonel Commandant, in a ceremony held recently. It was attended by senior officers and personnel of the Indian Army and various dignitaries of the industry.

Project Rohini, one of the largest satellite networks in India, is equipped with providing Demand-Assigned Multiple Access connectivity for voice, data and video. The network is centrally managed and controlled by a Network Management System which helps in exercising control over all remote stations.

The fielding of this technology-intensive, broadband satellite network will not only address the communication requirements but also enhance the robustness and reliability of the communication infrastructure which the Corps of Signals has established for the Indian Army. The network will have its interconnectivity to other strategic networks in order to ensure its optimum utilisation.

“Project Rohini has been fielded to meet the voice and broadband data communication requirements of establishments of the Indian Army located in remote areas thus overcoming limitations of terrain and distance,” said Kiran Bhagwanani, VP, APAC, Sales, HCL Comnet.
