A visionary with a difference
Vishnu Dusad, Managing Director of Nucleus Software,
a veteran IT professional who is a source of inspiration to many, is inspired
by his co-workers, writes Megha Banduni.
A professional with a global vision, Vishnu Dusad, Managing Director of Nucleus
Software, does not believe in looking behind but keeps his eyes fixed on the
next milestone for achievement. Dusad has a deep commitment in making a difference
to the lives of fellow Nucleites, and through Nucleus, to the world around.
He brings to Nucleus a technology background, and 21 years of rich professional
experience in the exciting space of software development.
Having first hand experience of the system development and implementation processes
for major Indian and multinational clients, he has been able to understand the
requirements of the customers and prospective clients effectively. His accomplishments
include managing application development projects, entering into new markets
and developing and implementing strategic plan for these markets.
Dusad is credited with much of the success of the organisation in expanding
to newer markets, specially in the Middle and Far East. His success in concluding
business deals in over 80 countries owes much to a deep sensitivity to cross-cultural
nuances. His experience encompasses the areas of software development, creation
of strategic alliances, business development and strategic planning.
As the Managing Director of Nucleus Software Exports, since 1997, he has successfully
steered the company to be among the few software organisations having a strong
product focus. Under his leadership, Deloitte and Touche Tohmatsu has awarded
Nucleus as one of the fastest growing technology companies in Asia Pacific for
three consecutive years and has also been ranked amongst the top 15 banking
application product companies by IBS Publications, UK.
An individual with a rare combination of academic excellence, entrepreneurship
and innovation, Dusad is a graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology,
New Delhi.
He founded the Nucleus Workshop in 1984, following which Nucleus Software Exports
was conceived in 1986. In 1994, Nucleus Software Solutions made its presence
felt in Singapore. The following year saw Nucleus Software go public and was
listed on the BSE.
Then, in the year 2000, the company commenced its Japan operations under Dusads
guidance. And today, with Dusads foresight and perseverance, the company
is looking at increasing its headcount to 1,000, shifting to a new facility
in Noida and launching a series of products. Dusad helped the company to grow
from a single client service provider to multifaceted, multi-client products,
solutions and service provider.
A person who is a source of inspiration to many, Dusad humbly says, My
friends and team members were the biggest inspiration for me. Whatever I have
achieved till now is the result of their hardwork and support. I started this
company with two of my colleagues and today, we have around 900 staff members.
I owe my success to my team members who consistently supported me. His
mantra for success ishardwork, simplicity and humility.
An avid reader, Dusad likes to read on various subjects, but his keen interest
is in books on strategy and economics. He also likes to read management books,
specially focussing on leadership. He believes that a good leader is one who
understands the needs and problems of his co-workers and supports them in achieving
their goal.
Being a leader does not mean that you have the privilege to dominate over
your co-workers. A good leader always understands the problems and needs of
team members and co-ordinates with them from time-to-time, asserts Dusad.
Apart from reading, Dusad likes to spend time with his familythat is his
wife and two children. His wife is a home-maker and children are school-going.
He says, I do try and spend as much time as I can with my family, but
working hard has its flipside and very often I find myself on long tours out
of the country and miss my family there. But my family has supported me in each
and every way and I truly value the time spent with them whenever I can. My
wife has been a great pillar of support and I appreciate her for being there
for our children even when I am travelling on most days every month. But whenever
I am in the country, I try spending quality time with them and catch up with
what they have been doing and the little things that I miss out on when I am
not around, concludes Dusad.
