Quantum’s PX500 Series

Features: The PX500 Series is a mid-range automation design platform that enables customers to meet current and future scalability requirements.

The PX500 Series, consisting of the PX502, PX506 and PX510, offers independent rackmount systems of 4U, 10U and 18U (rack-unit) to meet customers’ mission-critical data demands from the workgroup to the data centre. The systems are based on a common and modular architecture that allow customers to mix-and-match rack density, capacity and performance, backup, recovery and archive needs today and into the future at a competitive cost per gigabyte.

Quantum’s approach negates the need for external hardware or cabling and instead uses infrared and self-alignment technology for communication and set-up between units. Moreover, units can be added or removed in quick time with no additional hardware or cabling, and without taking the entire system offline.

The three systems of the PX500 Series—the PX502, PX506 and PX510—are tailored for customers to standardise their tape-based backup, recovery and archive on a single platform. Taking advantage of this design, Quantum’s Web-based management console allows customers to learn only a single interface to monitor and manage multiple PX500 Series systems, either as single libraries or as one entity that can continue operating even if an individual unit is down. Additionally, all PX500 Series systems utilise the same drive canisters, cartridge magazines and other key components to minimise parts and reduce complexity.

Allied Telesyn’s AT-8624POE switch

Features: The AT-8624POE is a 24-port Layer 3 Fast Ethernet switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. This switch supplements Allied Telesyn’s AT-8600 series switches. Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows devices to receive power over existing LAN cabling, eliminating the need for separate power supplies. Powered devices (PD) such as IP phones, wireless access points, network Webcams and hubs / switches can make use of the PoE technology by drawing power from the AT-8624 PoE’s power supply. AT-8624POE can also power devices such as webcams which can be used in security applications and provides uninterrupted service even in times of power failure, as the network can be backed up with an UPS system. With 400 watts available for PoE, the AT-8624POE is capable of supplying power (15.4 watts) to PDs over all the 24 ports.

Running PoE in the network also cuts down on operational manhours as the network manager can shut down or reset PDs remotely and can move or transfer PDs to LAN cabling with little configuration or management required as PD discovery and classification is automatically initiated by the AT-8624POE.

Allied Telesyn’s AT-8624POE offers stacking support, given its compact 1RU form factor that comes with high-speed uplink modules. Some of the features in the network security are wirespeed filters up to Layer 4+, VLANs, 802.1x and storm control.
