Emerson forays into SOHO market

Emerson Network Power India is tapping the SOHO UPS segment with two UPS models, the 600VA and the 1,000VA in the ITON range. At the launch, Shrikant Bapat, Senior Vice-president, Uptime Solutions, Emerson Network Power India said, “According to IDC, there are about 1.7 million organisations that fall under the small office segment comprising 1 to 9 PCs. Given the importance of uptime, most customers in this segment look for longer backup time along with reliable hardware protection. The SOHO segment thus represents a tremendous business opportunity.”

Prashant Mehar, Corporate Champion for Uptime Solutions at the company said, “With the launch of the ITON range, Emerson is planning an extensive campaign with its Indian channel partners to inform and educate them on the benefits of the products.”

Novell to acquire Onward’s stake

Novell has signed an agreement to acquire the 50 percent stake held by its partner in India, Onward Novell. Novel will integrate Onward Novell with the its Indian operations, increasing Novell’s investment in the region. The move is aimed at bringing its Linux and identity solutions to the Indian market.

“In India, Linux and open source are increasingly getting into applications such as mail messaging, file and print, and Web hosting. Identity and access management solutions are also getting increased traction in the IT services and BPO sector due to privacy and compliance issues. Hence, Novell’s decision to take direct control of its business in India should enable it to have greater focus on the Indian market and to deliver Linux, identity and access management solutions more effectively,” says Praveen Sengar, Analyst, Software and Services Research, IDC India.
