The founders of ESS take pride in the fact that their company
was one of the first few to realise the potential of growth and development
in the small and medium enterprises segment.
In 1998, the company introduced an application software package
called Makess that was specifically designed to satisfy the needs of SMBs. It
is now a well-recognised and leading ERP package in India, with over 200 installed
sites in various industries such as garment, dairy and automobile.
The company has achieved several milestones including the
launch of Indias first ERP package on the Internet. When introduced in
the market in 1999, Makess-on-the-Net became hugely popular as this new offering
was low on infrastructure cost, took less time to implement, and connected branch
offices at affordable prices.
ESS became a complete business-to-business solutions provider that comprehensively
understood the requirements of SMBs, and helped user organisation to manage
their resources as well as relationships (with entities such as customers and
suppliers) through a unified portal.
According to Sanjay Aggarwala, Director, ESS, Since its inception, ESS
has been leveraging the power of innovation to deliver value to its clients
by understanding the requirements of each clients industry and the specific
demands of their business. The companys flagship product, Ebizframe,
was introduced in 2000 and is now a popular ERP system that helps organisations
to reduce the time and cost required to manufacture and distribute products
profitably.

Quality first
ESS strives to be a world-class software package manufacturer. Its solutions
are implemented with quality processes that adhere to SEI-CMM level 5 and ISO
9001: 2000 standards. We went in for strict certifications to improve
our standards so that we can enable our clients to enhance the quality of their
products and services, Aggarwala explains. He adds that the quality management
system has reduced the time taken for application development, giving customers
significant benefits.
Success in the domestic market ensured that ESS got its share of business from
global markets as well. Word-of-mouth publicity helped ESS get clients from
the interiors of Africa to the far-flung areas of Asia. The companys solutions
have enabled customers from sectors such as manufacturing, health services and
retail to:
- Make efficient, timely and strategic decisions
- Run businesses based on the available integrated
online data
- Optimise and integrate business processes, thus
saving operational costs, generating revenues and profits, eliminating inefficiencies,
reducing time to market and improving customer service.
ESS tried to sell itself in the US too, but was left bruised. It made
us realise the importance of the market in Africa and Asia, Aggarwala
comments.
| ERP on WAP |
| ESS has launched what it says is Asia’s first WAP-enabled
enterprise solution—Cellbiz—which is an addition to Ebizframe. It enables
WAP cellphone users to access a company’s Ebizframe database and conduct
transactions through the phone. Once logged on, users can access critical
information from the ERP running in corporate premises, and thus bring about
an anytime-anywhere connected workforce. |
Looking ahead
From providing ERP to increasing efficiency in organisations, ESS is now planning
to take care of an organisations IT infrastructure and needs. We
will help to plan, integrate, modify and implement transition, and tune the
IT infrastructure of an organisation to any scale, informs Aggarwala.
This will include looking after hardware, network and security for the enterprise
and Web space on a 24x7 basis. ESS services will help enterprises
align IT with business goals, design and deploy IT services to support these
goals, and enhance service operations to deliver high-quality service at a reduced
costs. At ESS, we believe that there is no end to improvement, declares
Aggarwala.
