We intend to be an intensely process and technology
driven organisation, building enduring partnerships with our customers by continuous
effort to innovate and excel," says Dr S Ravichandran, chairman and CEO
of Trimentus Technologies, the Chennai-based quality accreditation and standards
company. He attributes the success of Trimentus to his mentor, Dr. Baldevraj,
Director, Department of Atomic Energy, Kalpakkam Division and to the Trimentus
Team.
Dr Ravichandran, an SEI-authorised lead assessor and appraiser
for software CMM, CMMI and People CMM, and Six Sigma Champion and Master Black
Belt, has been championing the software quality in India and the world over.
With a Customer list ranging from IBM- Manila to Accenture-Manila, HP- China,
Panasonic-US, Silversoft-UK, AIGSS-India to Redington Solutions-US and several
other prestigious clientele spread across the World, Trimentus Technologies
is a Global Consulting company with a mission to offer end-to-end Software Process
Improvement (SPI) and Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Services. "We are
exploring Asia Pacific and European markets, as people in those countries are
becoming more quality conscious" Dr Ravi said.
Established in 2003 by Dr. Ravichandran, who has over two decades of experience
implementing CMM, CMMI and People CMM, Trimentus, as an SEI partner, offers
to its customers SEI authorised services with its global delivery capability
and practitioners approach. An ME and a PhD in Physics/Engineering (interdisciplinary)
from REC, Tiruchy, Dr. Ravi has become a core professional in software quality
assurance after serving the Atomic Energy Commission and Nuclear Power Corporation
for 14 years as a scientific officer. He has extensively worked on quality with
accreditation from the Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Dr Ravi is the reviewer
for the Certified Information Systems Auditor's course manual of Information
Systems Audit and Control Association (IASACA), USA. He has to his credit the
distinction of being nominated as a member of the advisory board to the world's
first annual conference on people capability maturity modelling. "Our basic
philosophy at Trimentus is to promote and foster a quality culture in the software
industry," says Dr Ravi. The company has branches in Hyderabad, Mumbai
and Bangalore serving companies including IBM, Accenture and Fujitsu. Trimentus
is one of the few Indian quality consulting firms that have expanded their operations
into countries like Egypt, Nigeria, China, Philippines and Taiwan. The company
is in the process of launching its subsidiaries in China. "We have structured
our quality enhancement offerings for process and product segments. We have
an R&D wing called Einstein Research Lab and a research group focusing only
on software processes," says Dr. Ravi. The lab conducts research mainly
in the areas of defect modelling, process modelling, defect leakage studies,
architecture analysis, fault injection modelling, call centre operations and
Six Sigma. The training division of the company offers courses for working professionals
in software testing, configuration management and estimation. Trimentus has
recently entered into providing third party testing solutions involving verification
and validation services. With the backing of its research wing, Trimentus is
developing project management tools and bug-tracking software mainly for in-house
use. "We are considered to be one of the top three process consulting firms
in India and countries like China and Philippines," says Dr. Ravi, who
is an active member of various quality forums and organisations like SPIN, NAQR,
NDT, and IEI. "We look at testing mainly from the technological point of
view and all our testers are from technology background," Dr Ravi said.
As a harbinger of quality in software, Dr Ravichandran feels that the existing
facilities for quality Assurance testing need to be improved. "In fact,
government should encourage quality in software by providing quality testing
facilities," he says and adds that on the lines of subsidies to small scale
industries for obtaining ISO certification, software companies should also be
given assistance for CMMI certification. "Then the software companies will
fall in place," he feels.
