SAS Enterprise BI Server

Feature: SAS has launched a new version of SAS Enterprise BI Server, a component of the SAS9 Enterprise Intelligence Platform. The Enterprise BI Server offers OLAP storage and mapping capabilities integrated with a BI tool. It combines ease of use with reporting capabilities. Additionally, it offers a higher level of analytics-driven business intelligence with easy and fast access to data for business users across the enterprise.

SAS Enterprise BI Server draws information from a wide variety of data sources including transactional systems. It also allows organisations to leverage existing IT investments for optimal benefits. Additionally, the solution facilitates streamlining of the IT function within an enterprise through easy implementation, administration and deployment, thus reducing time and saving IT resources.

Tandberg tape autoloader

Features: Tandberg’s new storage loader model uses half-height LTO2 drives. The company says that it is the world’s smallest rackmount-configured LTO tape autoloader offering LTO2 capacity and performance as well as advanced data management features in a compact low-profile form factor. The 1U form-factor LTO StorageLoader tape automation solution delivers up to 3.2 TB compressed storage capacity and a transfer rate of up to 173 GB/hr.

It includes up to eight data cartridges stored in two removable magazines holding four cartridges each to ensure safe and easy loading of tape media and transport for offsite storage. Tandberg’s new StorageLoader LTO2 is equipped with multiple language supported web-based remote management as a standard feature.

Binotech Skillwhere

Feature: Skillwhere is an HR solution which allows capturing of resumes that a company receives either as an e-mail attachment or in predefined formats. It allows resumes to be downloaded and added to the resume database through easy shortcuts. Further, duplicate resumes are trapped and highlighted, and the solution automatically generates resume IDs. The software picks up details such as e-mail ID, name, telephone numbers, current employer details, educational qualifications, years of experience, projects completed, etc. It can track resume sources—whether it is coming from consultants, through advertisements, via employee referral, etc. The product enables a search of the resume database on parameters such as qualifications, years of experience, functions, skills, reference codes and specific keywords. Another feature of the product is its interview scheduler. Interviews can be scheduled for any requirement or for a specific position or profile.

Brother MFDs

Feature: Brother recently launched the 3240, 5440CN and 5840CN MFDs for the SMB segment. Some of the features of these MFDs are full-colour printing, faxing, copying, scanning, PC faxing and network compatibility. 5440CN colour printer, copier, fax and scanner gives a 1,200x6,000 dpi resolution with print speeds of up to 20 ppm in mono and 15 ppm for colour prints.

Other features include a one-touch key for scanning directly to e-mail, OCR, file and imaging applications, high-resolution colour scanning up to 19,200 dpi, 16 MB dual access memory which stores up to 170 pages, USB compatibility and network readiness.

The 5840CN’s PhotoCapture feature prints images directly from smart media, compact flash, memory stick, secure digital, xD picture card and scan-to-media centre.

Epson portable projectors

Feature: The light and portable EMP-765 and EMP-760 projectors feature wireless solutions, USB compatibility and PC-less presentation options, as well as advanced security features and networking functionalities. The EMP-765 also presents users with the added use of mobile presentations. Among the key features of the EMP-765 is its wireless technology. Developed and based on IEEE 802.11b/g WiFi technology for projectors, the EMP-765 enables the uploading or running of presentations in a wireless manner. The EMP-765 also comes with a built-in MPEG decoder for playing MPEG 2 movies. It also works with Mac OS X 10.3, which allows wireless compatibility with Apple’s Keynote presentation software.

iBall’s The First Emperor

Feature: The First Emperor is a laptop with an inbuilt TV tuner with 300 channels. Some of its features include 1 GB RAM, 80 GB hard disk, DVD writer (DVD+/-writer +CD writer), 802.11b/g wireless LAN, integrated Bluetooth, keyboard and standard FireWire, 3 USB 2.0 Ports, etc. Further, there is a WSXGA and wide screen LCD. 

It gives a 680x1050 resolution. For applications such as Excel and Word, the higher resolution allows more viewable content so that the user does not have to scroll much to view the entire spreadsheet/document and book formats. The inbuilt TV tuner allows the user to view more than 300 TV channels and also captures the same with MPEG 2 quality.

Apple Final Cut Studio

Feature: Final Cut Studio, the high definition video (HDV) production suite from Apple, features Final Cut Pro5 for DV, SD, HD and film. The Studio includes tools such as Soundtrack Pro, new audio editing and sound design applications, Motion 2, real-time motion graphic applications with GPU accelerated 32-bit float rendering, and DVD Studio Pro 4 (commercially available DVD authoring software for burning high definition DVDs to the latest HD DVD specifications).

Native HDV support in Final Cut Pro 5 enables users to edit camera native HDV without generation loss. It allows editors to cut from up to 128 sources (with simulations), and real-time playback up to 16 angles at a time. Final Cut Pro supports work on DV, SD, film or all major HD formats (including HDV, and DVCPRO HD). The new audio capabilities in the suite allow capturing up to 24 simultaneous audio channels at 24-bit 96 KHz. Soundtrack Pro comes with over 5,000 Apple loops that add depth to the action with musical elements and sound effects.

Motion 2 includes over 130 accelerated filters such as 3D rotation, vignette and caustics, and more than 50 new particle effects that automatically generate animation features such as sparkles, bubbles and space clouds.
