Server
consolidation takes wing
Although server consolidation is still a nascent technology,
Indian enterprises are adopting it to reduce the number of
servers and OS images that they need to maintain. CIOs are
aware of the concept and are open to adopting the latest high-end
servers and OS technologies in order to facilitate consolidation.
IT departments have a choice of hardware, software and resource
partitioning and the trend is to consolidate new requirements
rather than adopt a distributed solution.
HP
searches for a suitable CEO
Vyomesh (VJ) Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and
Personal Systems Group, is a potential candidate for the top
job at HP. Joshi has been the driving force behind HPs
accelerated earnings at the companys printer unit during
the past three years.
ESC
opens Hyderabad centre
Electronics and Computer Software Export Council (ESC) has
set up a centre at Hyderabad. It plans to rope in 300 members
by March 2005. The organisations membership in the city
presently amounts to 120.

approves Rs 12,400 cr e-Gov project
The Centre has approved the National e-Governance Action Plan
at an outlay of Rs 12,400 crore to be spent over the next
four years. The approved e-Governance project is said to be
the largest one in the South Asian region. According to J
Satyanarayana, CEO, National Institute for Smart Government
(NISG), the plan will have 30 components and it will be implemented
with public and private participation.
Cavium
Networks plans $10 mn facility
Cavium Networks Inc, a California-based supplier of communication
and semiconductor solutions for IP-based networks, has announced
a $10 million investment toward setting up an India development
centre in Hyderabad.

targets 15 percent share in software exports
West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee inaugurated
a software technology park (STP) at Bidhannagar in Durgapur.
Meanwhile IT Minister Manabendra Mukherjee commissioned another
STP at Nimpura, Kharagpur; this one has been set up at a cost
of Rs 5 crore.

India to expand R&D activities
Computer Sciences Corporation of India (CSC India), a wholly-owned
subsidiary of the $15 billion CSC is planning to expand its
research and development (R&D) activities. As part of
CSCs global innovation programme, CSC India would take
up R&D activities at its six development centres located
in Hyderabad, Indore, and Noida.
SafeNet
to target large enterprises in India
Encryption security solutions company, SafeNet Inc, plans
to increase its focus on the Indian market. The company established
its presence in the country when it acquired Rainbow Technologies
in mid-2003. Over the last one-and-a-half-years, SafeNet has
been on a growth trajectory and it has identified India as
one of its fastest growing markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
CommVault
to develop modules for its next-gen products in Hyderabad
US-based CommVault Systems has drawn up plans to make its
recently-launched Hyderabad centre an important destination
for the companys products and software solutions.

solution from Supertech Solutions
Supertech Solutions, a banking solutions provider to the co-operative
sector, has introduced two new products. The first product
is Antara Plus, an any-branch banking solution, which works
on any GSM network. The link is established as and when there
is demand, so the recurring cost is low.
