MANAGEMENT - Insight for Managing Technology

ERP @ MTR
MTR Foods has been grappling with the intricacies of managing its supply chain to generate a profitable rate of growth. Among the top-five processed food manufacturing companies in the country, the company has seven diverse businesses—ready-to-eat foods, instant foods, ice-cream, meal accompaniments, frozen foods, spices & masalas, and vermicelli—and 200 products in all. The company also exports its products to the US, Canada, Europe and Australia.

Workflow transformation at Wividus
Wividus, Wipro’s Shared Services Centre, a captive BPO operation, handles back office operations including employee claims, loan processing, accounts payables and HR-related activities of Wipro Technologies, Wipro Spectramind and Biomed. The organisation handles the entire transaction processing load of claims, reimbursement and provident fund for 30,000 employees across Wipro’s various units.

Security Policies: to be or not to be
Information Security (IS) has gained greater importance as part of every business’ risk management strategy on account of recent events. Companies are moving to the mature position that security should be integrated into the very fabric of a business. In doing so, IS programmes need to move from being tactical implementations of technology to becoming strategic partners in business.

PicoPeta is going places
Four professors from the Indian Institute of Science resolved to produce affordable computing solutions for India and other developing countries. This was the start of PicoPeta Simputers in 2001. In its first year, an indigenous product called the ‘Poor Man’s Computer’ was developed. From then on, PicoPeta has been striving to reach out to the masses, both rural and urban, in education, e-governance, health and micro-financing. The company exudes optimism for the first quarter of 2005, and is set to garner a fair chunk of customers. To date, it has over 25 customers in the government and private sector, in verticals such as FMCG, utility billing and media.
