BSNL awards $500 million contract to Nortel
Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has awarded Nortel a contract estimated at approximately $500 million to expand BSNL’s GSM/GPRS digital wireless network in the East and South zones of India. This expansion, part of a larger nationwide project, is expected to be completed in the first half of 2005.

Patni wins export award
Patni Computer Systems has received the Award for Excellence in Electronics for the year 2002-03 from the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, government of India. Patni was chosen as the top company in the Computer Software category.

SUN, Cadence and VEDA IIT to set up centre for VLSI engineering
Sun Microsystems, Cadence and VEDA IIT, a Hyderabad-based VLSI (very large scale integration) engineering institute have announced plans to build the country’s first nodal Center of Competency (CoC) for research and development in VLSI engineering, design automation and embedded system engineering in Hyderabad.

Satyam launches Grid Computing practice
Satyam Computer launched its Grid Computing practice, which will offer customers consulting, design and implementation, conversion and maintenance in Grid Computing. This Chennai based practice is part of the Consulting and Enterprise Solutions unit of Satyam.
