$ 1.6 billion fab project

According to Andhra Pradesh's IT&C department, the country's first silicon chip fabrication (fab) facility in the private sector is likely to come up in Hyderabad. According to the department, Intellect Inc, the South Korea-based semiconductor major having eight fab facilities across the globe, will be setting up the $ 1.6 billion project under a consortium model involving the state government and original equipment manufacturers.

The facility will manufacture chips up to 200 mm thickness to meet the different needs of the electronic industry. The project will focus on making chips for different applications and gadgets right from mobile phones and washing machines to hi-end technology applications. The facility is expected to be implemented in two phases, for which the state government has allotted 50 acres of land in the Hardware Technology Park at Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

CMC partners with EMC

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, has announced a tie-up with CMC, a leading systems integrator and global provider of IT services, to offer information storage solutions in the domestic Indian market. As part of this alliance, CMC joins the EMC Velocity Partner Programme, and through its consulting and systems integration services, CMC will help Indian organisations adopt robust information storage infrastructures using EMC's best-of-breed networked storage platforms, software and services. This partnership will enable EMC to build its presence in vertical industries where CMC has an established presence; these include BFSI, transportation, defence, e-governance, shipping and mining.

Manoj Chugh, president, EMC India & SAARC, said, 'CMC enjoys tremendous goodwill and domain knowledge in the domestic market, and is well-positioned to work with EMC in providing information solutions to Indian customers.'
