Feature on IT real estate in Tamil Nadu
Kumaruguru College
The second wave of private partnership in technical education emerged in the
early 80s in Tamil Nadu. Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore,
came into existence in 1984. Arutselvar Dr Mahalingam was a multi-faceted personality
whose vision was implemented by establishing this institution. The infrastructure
of KCT is strong. The 150-acre campus with around 10 lakh sq.ft. of buildings
has more than 75 classrooms, and 75 laboratories serve the teaching/learning
process. There are over 800 state-of-the-art computer systems in various labs,
besides a VSNL fibre optic cable backbone. Anna University has selected KCT
as one of the 14 institutions where the learning process enabled through video
conferencing has been set up. KCT has recently signed a memorandum of understanding
with Software Technology Parks of India for establishing a 1 lakh sq.ft. software
technology park. This high-tech park will be a preferred destination for national
and multinational IT companies as it is designed to match the facilities at
metros with an added advantage of having a skilled workforce available at a
relatively lesser cost.
