Tata Telecom is now Avaya Global Connect

Sushma Naik / Mumbai

Avaya, a joint venture partner of the Tatas in Tata Telecom has increased its stake to 51 percent in the company. With this, Tata Telecom becomes a part of Avaya Global Connect. Avaya now has a thousand employees with its regional headquarters in Singapore and a development centre in Pune. Donald K Peterson, chairman and CEO, Avaya said that the acquisition was a logical step as Tata Telecom catered to MNCs in India who were Avaya's customers in the US. Additionally, Avaya also shared some of its partners with Tata Telecom. After the acquisition, Avaya will look at building a service support hub in India and a global distributor channel. This acquisition is important as India is home to a booming call centre market.
