Oracle to ramp up Indian ops
Circuit EC / Mumbai
Oracle Corporation has decided to increase its focus on India
by stepping up its software development activities, broadening its partner base,
and looking at acquisitions.
Oracle president Charles E Phillips Jr, said, Oracle would like to look
at the Indian market from a deployment perspective and we are developing our
partner base for this purpose.
According to Phillips, India accounts for Oracles largest research
and development (R&D) investment outside of the United States. It has become
its fifth largest market in Asia in terms of revenue. It is also the centre
for several of Oracles global support, consulting and financial services
operations.
Oracle is also stepping up its efforts on the sales and marketing front. Oracle
has 150 channels and alliance partners under the Oracle Partner Network, including
i-flex Solutions, Infosys, Satyam among others. Some Indian organisations running
Oracle software are ICICI, HDFC Bank, BSNL and Bharti. A clear indication of
the companys sharpened focus is reflected in its growing employee base
of over 6,000 in India. The company is recruiting at least 250 employees every
month.
Phillips did not rule out the possibility of acquisitions.
He indicated that there were interesting companies both in India
and China. Talking about Oracle Information Architecture, he said that the architecture
enables customers to move from fragmented, high cost architectures and improve
the quality of the data. The architecture, he explained advocates consolidation
and reduction of complexity in enterprise information infrastructure.
