D-Link targets SME and BFSI with new router and firewall

Circuit EC / Bangalore

D-Link has indigenously developed routers and a firewall appliance using Intel’s Xscale technology that is directed at the rapidly growing SME market. These two products are designed and developed at D-Links’ R&D centre in Bangalore.

K.R Naik, CMD, D-Link India, said, “We are using our resources in R&D to develop products for the Indian market at an affordable price.” Capt J.V Avadhanulu, director-Software Technology, D-Link India, said that prices D-Link products (routers) are already 20 percent lower than Cisco’s. Made in India router DRO-100i uses Intel IXP-425 network processor and provides routing, quality of service, firewall and VPN functions with two channels. VoIP as an optional plug-in. A built-in ISDN interface provides back up to the WAN. The DRO-100i is priced 15 percent lower than D-Link’s existing products. The additional cost benefit will be passed on to SME customers.

The new firewall appliance, DFW-100i is also based on Intel’s Xscale architecture and includes an integrated VPN solution. Both routers and firewall appliance products are Linux-based. D-Link sees a big market for firewall appliance in banking and financial vertical besides SMEs.
