D-Link targets SME and BFSI with new router and firewall

D-Link has indigenously developed routers and a firewall appliance using Intel’s
Xscale technology that is directed at the rapidly growing SME market. These
two products are designed and developed at D-Links’ R&D centre in
Bangalore.
K.R Naik, CMD, D-Link India, said, “We are using our resources in R&D
to develop products for the Indian market at an affordable price.” Capt
J.V Avadhanulu, director-Software Technology, D-Link India, said that prices
D-Link products (routers) are already 20 percent lower than Cisco’s. Made
in India router DRO-100i uses Intel IXP-425 network processor and provides routing,
quality of service, firewall and VPN functions with two channels. VoIP as an
optional plug-in. A built-in ISDN interface provides back up to the WAN. The
DRO-100i is priced 15 percent lower than D-Link’s existing products. The
additional cost benefit will be passed on to SME customers.
The new firewall appliance, DFW-100i is also based on Intel’s Xscale architecture
and includes an integrated VPN solution. Both routers and firewall appliance
products are Linux-based. D-Link sees a big market for firewall appliance in
banking and financial vertical besides SMEs.
