CSC bets big on Hyderabad

Arun Maheshwari

CSC India, the Indian arm of the $15 billion Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) is setting up a major development centre in Hyderabad with an estimated investment of $10 million. The company, which has been operating out of rented premises in Hyderabad, will commence full-fledged operations in July at a 120,000 sq ft facility at C L Raheja’s Mindspace. “We are expanding and the Hyderabad centre will be our next big centre after Noida,” said Arun Maheshwari, president, managing director and chief executive officer of CSC India.

The company has grown by 75 per cent annually for the last few years in India and hopes to do the same in the current fiscal. Maheshwari said that the company has already started recruiting people for the Hyderabad centre. “We will be hiring 1000 professionals in the next 12 months and it may go up to 3,000 seats in the next two years,” he added.

“The company will also have another centre in Hyderabad and will invest a similar amount in 2006. It will spruce up its Noida centre,” he said. The investments will be met through profits from Indian operations. The Indian operations have grossed $50 million in turnover, he added.

The Hyderabad centre will be involved in designing and development of applications management (transformation solutions) and global infrastructure support services. Two new senior members have been appointed to head the two divisions, he said. While the applications management division will focus on banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) verticals, the infrastructure support service division will take care of storage management, enterprise management, network management, database management, Unix server support and project management, he said.

Maheshwari also disclosed that the parent company is negotiating with a European-based insurance major for a seven-year major deal. “The deal is expected to be finalised soon and the Indian operations will get 600 jobs in the first year, which will be shared by both Hyderabad and Noida centres,” he added.
