HP’s mx2—two processors in one module

Circuit EC / Bangalore

HP’s new mx2 dual-processor module lets customers put two Intel Itanium processors on a single module protecting their investment in HP Integrity (Superdome, rx8620-32, rx7620-16 and rx4640-8) servers, doubling workload capacity. The new module will permit scaling up capacity to 128 Itanium processors.

Ramarao Karthik, marketing manager, Integrity Servers, Business Critical Servers, Asia Pacific Operations, HP said, “We see a scope for server consolidation using the mx2 module [on HP Integrity servers] as they will double processor capacity without [changing the] chassis. This is well suited for a data centre environment. Customers can increase workloads to run additional applications or add additional users.”

A HP Integrity server can be used to consolidate applications from HP-UX 11i, Windows and Linux. “It [mx2] results in direct cost savings through lower power consumption and cooling requirement, better floor space utilisation and reduction of management costs,” said Karthik.
