Tata Indicom introduces ‘Push-To-Talk’ in India

Circuit EC / Bangalore

Tata Indicom has launched its Push-To-Talk service that lets customers connect directly with other Push-To-Talk customers at the push of a button. Built on QUALCOMM’s BrewChat technology, the service aids person-to-person and person-to-group communication. This new walkie-talkie feature provides customers with an instant connection to individuals or groups of people without dialing and waiting for the call to connect. It has been designed for CDMA200 1X networks.

Amit Bose, president-Telecom, Tata Teleservices said, “For a brief period this service will be a free try-and-buy offer for corporate customers. The service will be fully functional and will be made available to the mass market shortly.” Push-To-Talk will be available on all Push-To-Talk-enabled Kyocera handsets, priced in the range of Rs 5,000 to 6,000. Before introducing the service, Tata Indicom ran several pilots within its own group to test the usability of the service. The Push-To-Talk call will be transmitted over a secure network and allow corporates to establish a digitally-secure communication channel for group calling.
