NetApp to release ‘made-in-India’ product

Circuit EC / Bangalore

Dave Hitz

Network Appliance plans to increase the head count at its India technology centre from the current 75 to about 300 people within the next 18 to 24 months. NetApp had earlier earmarked Rs 75 crore for expanding its technology centre in India. The India technology centre has contributed significantly to the development of NetApp’s NetCache product line. The Indian team will be responsible for the development of the next release of NetCache that’s due in July 2004.

Dave Hitz, founder and executive vice president engineering, Network Appliance said, “Around 10 percent of our total R&D work is carried out at our Bangalore technology centre. The increase in headcount is part of our global strategy. We will simultaneously add people in the US.”

Two-thirds of the Bangalore team is engaged in engineering and development initiatives and the remainder are responsible for technical support. NetApp has over 600 engineers staffing its development teams spread across four development centres in the US and one in India.
