Fujitsu launches three new processors

FUJITSU Microelectronics, a leading Asian player in the microelectronics and flat panel display industry has launched three new FR-V family processors for media processing at the 12th Convergence India Exhibition 2004.

These include the FR-V Processor for digital AV equipment, companion chip for digital AV (audio visual) equipment, and SoC for digital AV equipment, bringing the number of products in the FR400 Series to five. The FR-V family is the core of the FR-V Media Solution for embedded systems that go into digital AV equipment. It provides advanced media processing for imaging equipment such as media centres and IP TV phones.

Fujitsu has also introduced their convergence-related components that showcase its solutions for digital television. These consist of SmartMPEG, an integrated set-top box MPEG decoder, and MB86A15, a single-package, front-end solution for digital broadcasting.

For Fujitsu, the introduction of SmartMPEG and MB86A15 is in line with emerging global technologies.

The convergence of traditional broadcasting and information & communication technologies has prompted the emergence of a new range of services.

Fujitsu’s SmartMPEG (MB86H2X) addresses the needs of a full range of satellite, cable, terrestrial or IP set-top boxes. SmartMPEG twin TS Demultiplexer coupled with an IDE interface can handle concurrent hard disk record and playback channels in two different streams, providing

real-time shift function. For example, while watching a cricket match, a viewer can replay the best shot and switch back to the main game instantly.
