Eicher deploys Windows Server 2003

MICROSOFT India has announced that the Eicher Group has deployed Windows Server 2003 to manage a network of more than 800 desktops. Windows Server 2003 is Microsoft’s operating system aimed at three communities: IT professionals, information workers and developers. It helps customers run IT infrastructure up to 30 percent more efficiently than previous versions of Windows.

A Windows NT 4.0 user, Eicher decided to migrate to the latest version of Windows Server to leverage improvements in directory services, new identity management features, and enhanced security features, besides the greater reliability and scalability offered by the product.

Commenting on the deployment, Sanjay Govil, CIO, Eicher Group, said, “One of the biggest advantages offered to us by Server 2003 is the flexibility to manage our substantial IT infrastructure remotely. It also allows us better security and patch management…We expect to achieve reduction in administration costs, higher system availability, robustness of platform and enhanced security as a result of this deployment.”

Added Yasir Yousuff, senior marketing manager, Microsoft India, “Due to India’s geographical spread, manufacturing companies have offices across the country, which makes it difficult to manage the IT infrastructure from one location. Windows Server 2003 helps the manufacturing vertical address this problem by providing the ability to remotely manage its IT infrastructure.”
