Product Launches

Kodak

i600 Series Scanners

Kodak India’s Document Imaging division has announced the launch of new mid-range desktop production document scanners, the i600 series scanners. With features and technology critically important to companies with document scanning needs ranging from 10,000 to 60,000 pages daily, the new i600 series scanners respond to customer needs for outstanding performance and reliability at a price that is of outstanding value.

The Kodak i600 series scanners include innovative features for production environments such as Perfect Page with iThresholding and SurePath paper handling that produce outstanding image quality, and advanced image processing—all focused on providing price-to-performance value. The three new scanner models in the i600 Series include the i620, with a rated speed of up to 80 pages per minute (ppm) landscape, the i640 at up to 100 ppm and the i660 at up to 120 ppm. All three scanners include a pre-scan document imprinter and five output options—bitonal, grayscale, colour, bitonal and grayscale or bitonal and colour, all at rated speed.

The i600 series represents a clean sheet design to meet the needs of customers whose applications rely on production document scanners to convert their documents into digital images. These can be found in many markets including financial and insurance, as well as federal, state and local governments.

For the most demanding scanning needs, the i600 series is equipped with advanced imaging technologies that include improved auto-cropping, electronic colour dropout, auto deskew, orthogonal rotation, and an overall wider imaging area, in order to capture documents with different textures or unusual sizes. Available accessories include an ultra-lightweight paper feeder and an easily installed white background for better image quality on very thin documents.

The i600 series scanners also feature Perfect Page with iThresholding—a key image-processing feature found in most Kodak innovation series scanners. This reduces pre-sorting, rescans, and post-image processing to deliver cleaner, sharper images at full processing speed with less time and labour.

Features

  • Brightness and contrast control customises colour output for demanding applications.
  • Three separate 3-D Ultrasonic Document Detection Sensors eliminate feed errors caused by address labels, varying paper thickness, adhesive notes and even stapled documents.
  • Two 2,500-hour Xenon lamps per side (with lifetime replacement covered by a service agreement) reduce unwanted shading due to wrinkled or folded documents.
  • Sealed camera design keeps dust from affecting image quality.
  • IEEE-1394 (FireWire) interface (card and cable included) makes it easy to connect.
  • Energy Star compliant.
  • Bundled with ISIS and TWAIN drivers to support all advanced features.
  • VRS READY compatibility.

The i600 series scanners are compliant with Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act, and feature other ergonomic benefits, including a 500-sheet automatic document feeder, a quick-access paper path and easily accessible feeder modules.

The i600 Series Scanners are priced from Rs 16.5 lakh to Rs 31.5 lakh and will be available through Kodak India and its authorised distributors TRRS Imaging.

Best IT World

iUFO

Best IT World has introduced two new products under its ‘i’ range of input peripheral products—iUFO and Blue Eye Black Opti. iUFO is a cordless desk set packed with powerful technology and features. iUFO stands out on the RF (radio frequency-based) cordless desk top range. The iUFO desk set has a full featured office technology-cum-multimedia 136-key keyboard. The RF keyboard enables many office functions to be carried out with single touch keys and thereby increases work efficiency apart from the comfort it gives the user.

Both the mouse and keyboard are ergonomically designed. The mouse also features optical sensor technology in addition to 800 dpi resolution and five buttons. The long keys on the left and right are intended to provide additional user comfort. Keeping user comfort in mind even the scroll wheel has been broadened.

The RF sensor features a UFO design and comes with a tripod stand. It has two channels, 256 IDs support and on-screen alerts for major functions like caps lock, num lock, etc. There is an activity indicator LED on the UFO sensor, which makes the whole cordless desk set one of the most technologically superior products on the desktop.

The other product launched is Blue Eye Black Opti, an optical mouse with 800 dpi resolution. Its scroll wheel has a glowing blue light and a black body.

Apple

Xserve G5

Apple has introduced Xserve G5, the most powerful Xserve yet, delivering over 30 gigaflops of processing power per system, about 60 percent more than the PowerPC G4-based Xserve. Xserve G5 features the same revolutionary PowerPC G5, 64-bit processor used in Virginia Tech’s cluster of Power Mac G5s—the world’s third fastest supercomputer. With unparalleled performance and manageability in a 1U rack-mount enclosure, Xserve G5 is the perfect server for today’s UNIX-based applications.

Xserve G5 includes a new system controller with up to 8 GB of PC3200 error correcting code (ECC) memory; three hot-plug Serial ATA drive modules that deliver up to 750 GB of storage; optional internal hardware RAID; dual PCI-X slots, supporting 133 MHz PCI-X cards with over 1 Gbps of throughput; and dual on-board Gigabit Ethernet for high-performance networking.

Available with either single or dual 2.0 GHz PowerPC G5 processors, the Xserve G5 architecture is based on an execution core that features parallel computation for an unprecedented 215 in-flight instructions, full symmetric multi-processing, two double precision floating-point units and an optimised Velocity Engine. Xserve G5 has the industry’s fastest front-side processor bus—running at up to 1.0 GHz and delivering 8 Gbps per processor.

Building on the engineering feats first introduced in the Power Mac G5, Xserve G5 squeezes the incredible performance of dual PowerPC G5 processors into an ultra-thin 1U enclosure. An innovative copper heat sink design effectively removes heat from the processors while eight high-performance fans provide airflow for cooling the system. The fans are individually managed and monitored by a dedicated fan control processor; if a single fan fails the others speed up to compensate. The 1U enclosure has an array of over 30 sensors, including eight dedicated to temperature control, that continually monitor all critical system functions throughout the server.

Xserve G5 is the ideal server solution for cross-platform file and print, workgroup management, video streaming, database applications, high-performance computing, and Web and mail serving.

Xserve G5 features new capabilities designed to make server set-up and remote management easier than ever before. Server Monitor, Apple’s hardware remote monitoring application, provides both high-level red/yellow /green status on all key subsystems, as well as detailed information on server status. Xserve G5 includes an updated Server Monitor that now provides information from over 30 sensors, including power supply voltages, temperature sensors, fan speeds and Ethernet and hard drive performance.

Xserve will come in three standard configurations or can be fully customised to meet specific customer requirements. The three standard Xserve G5 configurations include:

A single 2.0 GHz PowerPC G5 processor with 512 MB of PC3200 ECC RAM, a single 80 GB Apple drive module with expandability for up to 750 GB, dual Gigabit Ethernet on-board, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0, and an unlimited client license of Mac OS X Server for a suggested maximum retail price of Rs 2,53,600, excluding local taxes and inclusive of three-year warranty and Mac OS X Server unlimited.

Cluster-optimised dual 2.0 GHz PowerPC G5 processors with 512 MB of PC3200 ECC RAM, a single 80 GB Apple Drive Module, dual Gigabit Ethernet on-board, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0, and a 10-client license of Mac OS X Server for a suggested maximum retail price Rs 2,56,700 per cluster node, exclusive of local taxes and inclusive of three-year warranty with Mac OS X server 10 client enabled.
