NETDEVICES, a company focused on developing unified networking solutions, is
looking at India not only for R&D talent but also as a huge market. The
company is targeting both the Indian and US markets at the same time. This means
that in addition to R&D, the company will also set up a sales and marketing
team in India. The company is developing its product in collaboration with its
customers. The product is being tested today, and will be available commercially
by the end of the year.
Says Seenu Banda, chief executive officer and president,
NetDevices, We have given India the same priority as the US market, and
hope to learn a lot from both. Since Indian enterprises typically have been
lagging behind in adoption of traditional applications, we see a huge market
for unified networking devices that combine a host of networking functions in
addition to security. While it is a common belief that customers prefer
best-of-breed products, what matters even more is lower cost of ownership and
ease of management.

Separate devices performing specific functions are resource-hungry;
managing them effectively and efficiently is also turning out to be a major
challenge for IT heads. This is the market that network equipment vendors and
specialist players like NetDevices are looking to tap in a big way. Similar
to the global trend, even Indian enterprises have started looking at adopting
integrated security devices; there is no problem of integration with them, and
they are easier to manage.
The companys first product will combine five applicationsrouting,
VPN, firewall, IDS and switching. NetDevices says that this product addresses
most of the needs of enterprises that are looking for traditional applications.
Since it is fully inter-operable with other networking vendors, NetDevices believes
that it can even find takers in companies that have already installed best-of-breed
applications.
Says Uday Birje, director, Marketing, NetDevices, We have a non-disruptive
approach, and we believe that this will open a bigger market for us. Our product
can bring together multiple devices and also integrate with legacy systems.
As the company will provide the customer the option of choosing applications,
customers can deploy specific applications. This strategy is different from
other integrated device players who are following a disruptive approach and
look to replace traditional applications.
