Ariba
ACP / ACW
Ariba has unveiled three new products and upgrades to the full platform of Ariba
spend management solutions—Ariba Category Procurement (ACP), Ariba Contract
Workbench (ACW) and Ariba Settlement-to transform and has expanded each step
of the spend management process. Collectively, the new products are part of
Ariba’s strategy to help customers adopt a category-specific approach
to spend management, and to dramatically increase the savings opportunities
for large enterprises in any industry.
Ariba Category Procurement is a new solution for managing complex spend categories
at the front lines of the business. The solution is designed to enable companies
to double, or in some case triple the amount of spend they currently capture
and manage, resulting in increased savings to the bottom line. Ariba Category
Procurement uses new capabilities in collaborative requisitioning, rate card
and formula-based contract pricing, and time card management to manage a wide
variety of complex spend categories.
Ariba Contract Workbench is an expansion of Ariba’s existing Ariba Contracts
solution. The new product reduces cycle times for contract creation, enhances
collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, centralises contract
visibility, and drives standard contract language and best practices across
the organisation. Ariba Contract Workbench is able to significantly accelerate
the time to assemble, negotiate and collaborate on contract creation, resulting
in better pricing and compliance.
Ariba Settlement is an integrated solution to manage and pay approved invoices.
The new application assists with payment terms and discount handling, payment
schedules, status visibility and electronic disbursement on the Ariba Supplier
Network, payment remittance, advice routing and visibility, payment scheduling,
forecast and discount analysis and vendor self service and payment profile synchronisation.
Ariba Settlement automates the invoicing and payment process to reduce processing
costs and more effectively forecast and manage cash requirements.

VXL
Itona TC
VXL Instruments has introduced their new Itona TC, a powerful high performance
thin-client device for corporate networks. The Itona TC’s low price, combined
with the device’s revolutionary side car add-on provides organisations
with the cost effectiveness of a thin-client solution as well as the application
reliability of a traditional PC.
This stability, combined with the device’s VIA high performance C3-800MHz
processor and high-resolution graphics system, provides organisations with a
cost-effective, cutting-edge thin-client solution.
Powered by Window CE .net, Windows XP Embedded or Gio Linux, the Itona is a
simple, fast and powerful device that provides excellent client management and
configuration using VXL InControl Enterprise management software. It is perfect
for those who operate within a local or wide area server-based computing environment
and require a centralised desktop management option that eliminates the need
for expensive and time-consuming local administration. All of the terminal’s
settings can be manipulated from a central server, allowing complete control
over the desktop environment. Because VXL’s Itona thin-clients do not
have any user accessible storage media such as a hard disk or a floppy drive,
data is totally secure and cannot be lost, stolen or corrupted by computer viruses.
All user data is stored and backed up on the central servers.
The Itona is particularly easy to deploy and maintain, cheaper to run and effective
in reducing the cost of any network by ensuring that only qualified system administrators
have access to the client profile from a central source. This prevents user
interference with the client, which is the most costly element in any enterprise.
Features:
- It is designed around VIA’s C3-800 MHz processor
and its accompanying high resolution graphics system, providing thin-client
connectivity at resolutions exceeding 1280 x 1024 with over 24 bits of colour
depth.
- It can work under Windows CE. Net , Windows XP embedded
and Gio Linux. The Itona TC also sports a built-in power supply, thereby doing
away with the typical brick type adaptor.

Compex
SKW812
Rashi
Peripherals has introduced Compex’s SKW812, a complete solution for SOHO
users. SKW812 comes with Compex revolutionary Netpassage16A+ and together with
iWavePort WL11B+ serves as an access point communicating with the compact and
efficient iWavePort WL11B+, which is connected effortlessly to notebooks via
the PCMCIA interface. SKW812 offers hassle free implementation with an out-of-the-box
solution for seamless integration between wireless and wired networks.
SKW 812 is an ideal kit for those who have a broadband connection and a notebook
PC. The user can simply plug his broadband connection to NP16A+ and insert a
WP 11B+ card in his notebook PC and go wireless. Other than this, if any customer
has more than one PC he has to just buy another USB wireless client card to
go wireless. All PCs can share one broadband connection, eliminating the need
to go in for extra Internet connections.
Compex has invented an exclusive feature known as Wireless Pseudo VLAN, which
is integrated in NetPassage series wireless access points and gateways. Wireless
Pseudo VLAN is very flexible and may be used in one of two ways. The first method
is called per-client Pseudo VLAN, and the only configuration needed is to turn
the feature ON at the access point. When this feature is active, the access
point (AP) allows access to all resources on the wired network, but since it
controls all wireless traffic, it prevents wireless users from seeing each other
and accessing each other’s data.
The second configuration method contains additional levels of security. This
is called per group or Pseudo Virtual LAN. Here, the AP can configure up to
four work groups and up to 10 users in each workgroup. The NetPassage allows
each Pseudo VLAN group to have a number of MAC addresses assigned. From then
on, whenever a wireless client requests access, the WAP first verifies that
its MAC address is included in any of the Pseudo VLAN groups. If it is a valid
MAC, then the AP grants access to all of the wired system resources, and also
(only) to the other wireless clients belonging to the same Pseudo VLAN group.
In all cases, the Pseudo VLAN is managed by the AP and requires no change to
the wireless client. It may be used in networks that are not using wired VLAN.
The beauty of Netpassage 16A+ is that it also supports your dial-up modem and
you can dial that modem from your PC wirelessly.
The Wireless Starter Kit SKW 812 is priced at Rs 11,999 and
includes Netpassage16A+ together with the iWavePort WL11B+ card..
