Cypress to strengthen Indian presence

CIRCUIT EC / Bangalore

T J Rodgers

CYPRESS India, the subsidiary of the US-based Cypress Semiconductor, intends to strengthen its presence in India. The company has design centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad, where total headcount is expected to go up to 315 engineers by end-2004 from the existing 160. Of these, 40 additions will be made at the Hyderabad centre and the rest at Bangalore. The Bangalore centre was established in 1995 and the Hyderabad centre in 2003. Cypress recently made a $25 million investment in India to support its expansion plans.

T J Rodgers, president of Cypress said, “Our Indian teams have showcased their ability to define, design, debug and deploy products successfully. This team has compiled more than 60 US patents and has designed Cypress’ most complex logic chip, its Packet Over SONET Integrated Circuit that has 15 million transistors.” Added Shiva Gowni, managing director, Cypress India, “Approximately 30 percent of Cypress’ development engineers are Indian nationals and we have an excellent relationship with the government here. Cypress India will continue to be an integral part of Cypress’ growth in the 21st century.”
