Product Launches

Modular InfoTech

Spellchecker

Pune-based Modular Infotech has launched its spell checker for eight Indian languages—Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Oriya, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, in addition to English. The spellchecker uses disc-based dictionaries and language rules to check and correct misspelled words in documents. The spell checking is done at the word level. A unique feature of the spellchecker software is that the document to be spell checked can contain any mix of these languages.

Considering the fact that the number of words passed by such a rule-based spellchecker is enormous, the process of checking wrong words is an ongoing process. For example, the number of words in the main dictionaries varies from language to language. The Marathi dictionary alone contains about 3.5 lakh words. In order to maintain high speed spell checking suggestions were sorted out by the degree of closeness with the misspelled word.

The spellchecker detects typographical errors and suggests the most likely correction. It also provides a user dictionary, which helps the user to update and edit the dictionary. The user can quickly choose a correction for the underlined misspelled words with only two mouse clicks. The spellchecker software will also be released along with the latest version of Shree-Lipi, a popular multi lingual package. But it can also be used as a standalone application.

Emerson

UCS-24X7

Emerson Network Power India has launched the UCS-24X7, an uninterruptible cooling solution specially devised for server rooms in small to mid-sized IT companies. In the first phase, UCS-24X7 will be available through specialised air-conditioning dealers across the country.

The heat generated by small server rooms necessitates specialised cooling solutions to optimise 24x7 operation of critical equipment therein. While comfort-cooling systems have been used over precision air conditioners to address the cooling requirements of these rooms since they are cheaper, the consequences have often been equipment snags, shutdowns and large energy bills.

UCS 24X7 is ideally suited to ensure 24X7 cooling, is more energy efficient and has a higher product lifecycle of 10 years vis-à-vis a comfort cooling system. It also offers power saving costs of up to Rs 60,000 per annum for an average server room load and guarantees a return on investment in 18 months.

UCS 24X7 offers a high sensible ratio of up to 92 percent and offers high-energy efficiency due to the use of innovative compliant scroll compressors. It is capable of filtering air up to 5-micron level with a filtration efficiency of 95 percent, protecting electronic equipment from dust bridging of components. UCS 24X7 is ideally suited to the cooling of many important installations such as critical server rooms, telecommunication facilities, industrial process control rooms, broadcast facilities, building services control rooms, surveillance and monitoring centres and medical equipment installations.

Cranes Software

Matlab

Cranes Software International along with The MathWorks, makers of Matlab, Simulink Technical Computing and Simulation software, has announced the availability of a bioinformatics toolbox for Matlab.

The toolbox facilitates the analysis of complex bioinformatics data, from genomic sequences to microarray data analysis, and speeds up the development and deployment of algorithms.

As the toolbox is built on Matlab, bioinformaticists can now rely on a proven data analysis and algorithm development environment that enables them to respond to data analysis requests efficiently and quickly with less hand coding.

The Bioinformatics Toolbox is designed to help users understand and visualise large amounts of research data in a fraction of the time associated with traditional biotech applications. With this latest addition to its product family, MathWorks is delivering the power and versatility of its integrated technical computing environment directly to the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

The toolbox provides scientists and bioinformaticists with an open, extensible environment for algorithm development and manipulation and enables easy communication of applications across research departments.

As a result, bioinformaticists can use the toolbox to focus efforts on the core of their work research and analysis without the risks associated with using disparate software programs.

The bioinformatics toolbox also provides access to standard genomic file formats, Web-based databases such as GenBank and PIR, and online data sources. The toolbox offers specialised routines for visualising microarray data, including box plots, I-R plots and spatial heat maps.

Caravel Info Systems

RapidGuide

Caravel Info Systems has launched Canada-based XStream Software’s RapidGuide, a 100 percent programming-free guidance-authoring technology that enables developers to create and deliver relevant knowledge support in the form of RapidGuide sessions, which are step-by-step instructional guidance sessions displayed on the user’s desktop. Each guidance session functions like an online teacher or coach who guides the user with step-by-step instructions as he performs a real-time task within a live application.

In addition, to guidance sessions, developers may create recorded simulations of desktop activity that illustrate how to perform specific tasks, and they may also build repositories of external files containing useful supplementary information on specific topics and subtopics.

SMC Networks

SMC7804WBRA

SMC Networks has announced the latest addition to its award winning Barricade family—the SMC7804WBRA, an all-in-one solution for PC or Mac users who want to share an ADSL broadband connection at home or office. Functioning as a bridge or a router, the SMC7804WBRA provides a high-performance link from branch offices, home offices or individual subscribers to their network service provider, including Internet service providers. Priced at Rs 21,150 (plus local taxes and duties) the SMC7804WBRA combines a 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps 802.11g wireless access point, four 10/100 RJ45 ports for connection to a PC or network and an additional RJ11 port that connects to an ADSL line.

The four RJ45 ports can be connected to a network hub or switch to expand the number of people sharing a single user ADSL account by up to 250 people.

The Barricade’s URL filtering feature is tailored to meet the needs of the SOHO/SME environment. Professionals working from home, or business owners concerned with productivity levels can block certain websites by entering either a URL address, or just a key word of the website.

Connection to the Internet is made simple by SMC’s Web-based management tool. A built-in DHCP server makes creation and expansion of networks around routers simple and easy.

The new Barricade also has an important interactive feature—a graphical user interface is supplied for installation, configuration and management, and e-mails alerts to users on any attempt to hack into the network.
