Beyond mere security

Recently I came across an Express Computer special issue on security. A special issue on this topic is a great idea as it is a key topic within the industry today.

And it’s not just about firewalls any more. The trend has moved on far ahead of the issues that have been depicted. Today, it’s firewall with application intelligence and gone are the days of packet filter, stateful packet filter etc. And the industry has also moved beyond plain intrusion detection systems to inline intrusion prevention systems. Vendors are in the process of bringing out advanced systems and we should see them hitting the market in the near future.

Rules and regulations

I am an active reader of Express Computer. It’s really great that .Net is an integral part of your magazine and that you are giving the required importance to .Net technologies. Also, the C# column by Yashwant Kanetkar is amazing. I would be grateful if you could publish the various IT laws and the guidelines for building a professional website using ASP.Net in forthcoming issues.

The business of technology?

I am a student of MCA and a regular reader of Express Computer. Like me, there are lakhs of students who are involved in various projects. I think all computer students are in need of Yashwant Kanetkar’s tips on C# and .Net. There are many other technologies on which your magazine could provide us with valuable tips. This would also help us in the projects we are involved in. But of late, Express Computer has been metamorphosing into ‘Express Management’. The focus has been more on management issues. Our request is to keep this weekly a core level computer magazine publishing articles on hardware and software, coding, and technology.

IT in medicine

I am an engineering student (Information Technology) and have been following this weekly for the last eight months. I take pleasure is saying that Express Computer has brought about a very positive change in my outlook towards the business as well as the technical aspects of IT.

IT is an all-pervasive field with applications in each and every field. My interest specifically lies in the field of medical informatics. The areas of my interest include health care systems, information systems, intelligent diagnosing systems, decision support systems, etc. Bioinformatics is also another emerging offshoot of medical informatics.

As a keen reader of EC and a passionate lover of medical informatics, I would request you to come up with issues/articles on medical informatics (covering the companies involved in such type of work, technological advancements, scope, etc).

I am sure that other professionals will definitely pay heed towards this sincere request from a young Indian on behalf of all the lovers of medical informatics.

We are leading

In your article on NLE systems, ‘NLE comes to Bollywood’, posted on your website [EC June 30, 2003] there was no mention of Leitch’s DPS Velocity and Quattrus non-linear editing systems and Softimage XSI and Softimage 3D and Digital Fusion, Special fx and 3D animation products.

Where as both Leitch DPS Velocity Quattrus and XSI 3D have a sizeable market share in the consumer, desktop and finishing markets. In fact, Sahara TV, Crest Communication, Balaji Films, National Institute of Design and Prasad Labs, are some of the users who create, edit, animate and insert graphics and other special effects using the Velocity, Quattrus, XSI, 3D and Digital Fusion platform.

According to certain reports, DPS Velocity, Quattrus, Digital Fusion, XSI and 3D, all marketed by Shaf Broadcast, together account for 32 percent of market in the DVE segment, nearly one-third of the total DVE industry in India.
