Intex to set up manufacturing facility in Jammu

Gaurav Patra / New Delhi

Intex Technologies, an emerging company in IT products and solutions is setting up a manufacturing facility in Jammu. The factory is expected to be operational by the end of February 2004. The company is into PCs, networking products, storage products, peripherals, hardware, multimedia products, power products, consumables, Intel approved server chassis, WAN & LAN solutions (wired and wireless).

“Our main focus has always been on the IT hardware business. But in the coming months we will be focusing more on PCs. The setting up of a manufacturing facility at Jammu is part of this initiative,” said Ramesh Vaswani, group president, Intex. Vaswani also expects that once the factory is operational, they will be able to provide PCs at a very competitive price. The PC initiative is part of the company’s broader focus on networking products. However, in the first phase, the company will be producing computer cabinets and speakers from this facility.

Having achieved a turnover of Rs 52 crore during 2002-03, the company is expected to achieve a turnover of Rs 80 crore in FY 2003-04. To achieve this target, Intex is planning to expand its sales network across the country. Today, Intex has 23 branches, 25 service centres, 500 distributors and 10,000 dealers across the country. The company is also looking at expanding its presence, both direct and indirect, to some more B&C class cities in India. “We are targeting B&C class cities as demand there is growing very rapidly,” said Vaswani. Although Intex has been focusing on the channel space, in the coming year they will be looking at enterprises as a separate market segment. For this the company has already started its restructuring exercise. Apart from all these initiatives, Intex has also launched a number of products like IMAC multimedia keyboards and OPTI mice in the Indian market.
