Magma Design Automation launches IC Excellence initiative in India

Circuit EC / Bangalore

Magma Design Automation, a provider of chip design solutions, has launched an ‘IC Excellence’ initiative in India aimed at training designers on the latest technologies. The aim is to help Indian IC designers create innovative products by automating IC implementation and to get the latest technology into the engineering curricula of universities. Magma runs similar programmes in Beijing, Taiwan and Japan.

As part of the programme, Magma will donate IC design software to institutions like IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and BITS Pilani and ten more universities in the future. Magma will also launch an IC physical design PG diploma course in collaboration with VLSI training institutions, collaborate with leading corporations and partner with the Karnataka government and the Department of IT, Government of India.

Rajeev Madhavan, chairman and chief executive officer, Magma Design Automation said, “There has been an explosive growth of MNC design centres in India and there is paucity of talent to fill these centres. Our IC Excellence initiative is aimed at filling this talent gap.”

Magma Design Automation operates a R&D centre at Bangalore and has roughly 30 people in its R&D team here. Globally, the US-headquartered electronic design automation (EDA) company has about 140 people in R&D. It has similar R&D centres in the US, Holland and China, besides other countries.
