ITPL Bangalore to expand

Circuit EC / Bangalore

The International Technology Park (ITPL), Bangalore is set to expand with the development of its fifth building ‘Inventor’, which should be ready by end-2004. Inventor is a nine-storey building and is being built at a cost of $15 million. The addition of Inventor's 2,80,000 sq ft will increase the park’s total built-up area to 1.88 million sq ft.

Karnataka chief minister, S M Krishna spoke at the ceremony marking the first pour of concrete for the Inventor building. He said: “ITPL has been a catalyst for the progress of the IT sector in Karnataka and has helped in attracting many companies to invest in Bangalore.”

Deputy prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, said: “The ITPL has come to epitomise the strong bilateral relationship between India and Singapore.”

Ratan N Tata, chairman ITPL, said, “Our master plan envisages the development of five million sq ft of built up area in the next eight to 10 years.” The park is 40 percent complete with a built up area of 1.6 million sq. ft. ITPL Bangalore is a joint venture between Tata Industries (the investment arm of the Tata Group), a Singapore consortium led by Ascendas and the Karnataka state government through the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board. It houses 106 companies, employing close to 12,000 people.
